Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the SCIT Education Director and the Early Childhood Manager, responsible for the overall coordination and completion of activities to meet the goals of the Office of Indian Education Native American Language Program Grant (NAL@ED.)Work with the ALRD staff to create Anishinaabemowin outreach and learning opportunities for students, staff, and community members to promote language acquisition. All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws. This is a grant-funded position.
The original spoken language of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian community is in a critical state of loss. If action is not taken immediately, the language that was spoken for hundreds of years will be lost forever.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and organize professional development for Sasiwaans staff, including fluent speaker visits to provide professional development in Anishinaabemowin.
- Assist in the development, planning, and implementation of an annual language workshop for staff and community members.
- Fiscal management of grant funds.
- Ensure timely collection, completion, and submission of all data inclusive of quarterly progress reports.
- Manage project-reporting requirements, which includes reviewing and evaluating annual program goals and submitting bi-annual performance reports to the Office of Indian Education.
- Plan bi-monthly Cultural crafting nights for Sasiwaans families.
- Assisting parents/guardians with the registration and set-up of language-learning app.
- Planning of bi-weekly Blue House meals with Sasiwaans families and community members for an immersion-style cooking experience to learn Anishinaabemowin associated with food and cooking.
- Assist Outreach Specialist in the development and coordination of language community outreach and education.
- Assist in the development and planning of project program, administration of grant activities, and annual budget for successful completion of goals and objectives.
- Attend educational workshops, language workshops, and language conferences.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

- Contact with tribal youth, adults, families, general public, social services, other agencies, and providers deemed appropriate to accomplish effective services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, or Human Services related field.
- Two years' experience in project management, communications, and working with school systems.
- Grant administration experience, including work plan development and implementation.
- Demonstrated background and experience in program planning, development, evaluation and implementation, and experience working with professional staff.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's Degree.
- Proficiency in speaking Anishinaabemowin.
License, Certification, or Special Requirements:
- Obtain HIPAA certification within five business days of hire.
- Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver's License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver's License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

Work Environment:

- Mandated reporting of abuse and neglect can lead to personal challenges with exposure to victims of abuse
- High incidence of exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required
