We are looking for candidates for the position of Director of the Engineering Advising Center (EAC) in the College of Engineering (CoE). The EAC serves students, the CoE, the University, and the larger society by contributing to the academic and personal growth of our undeclared undergraduate students. You will lead a team of diverse staff that collaborates with faculty and academic departments to facilitate and guide the students' academic path from registration through major declaration.
You will help lead the effort to enhance advising services to Michigan Engineering students. You will work collaboratively to form agreements among the College's academic departments and interest groups and to contribute to efforts to add new initiatives to the advising environment at Michigan.
You will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education.

- Direct and guide the full array of undeclared undergraduate advising-related programs and activities in the CoE to ensure academic success for our students
- Manage the administrative and operational activities within EAC
- Collaborate with deans, faculty, staff, and students to promote and enhance the quality of academic advising
- Oversee the EAC's academic advising team
- Manage the first-year, international, and transfer student orientations for new Engineering undergraduates, as well as transfer student and first generation student support programs
- Lead biweekly meetings of CoE undergraduate advisors and student-serving program staff
- Represent the CoE on campus-wide committees including the Advising Council of U-M (ACUM) Advising Administrators Committee
- Create partnerships with units across campus to meet student needs and ensure the holistic success of our undergraduate students
- Graduate-level degree in academic administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role with academic advising or student services in higher education
- 5+ years of experience supervising professional staff from diverse identities and backgrounds
- A clear vision for undergraduate academic advising, with the ability to direct all aspects of undergraduate advising, activities, and resources for engineering students, including those traditionally underrepresented in the field
- A commitment to support efforts aligned with the CoE's mission, values, and DEI commitments
- Experience working with computerized degree audits or student electronic management systems and data-driven approaches to measuring and promoting student success
- Experience working with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff and collaborating to form new and building upon existing ideas to obtain consensus
- Demonstrated ability to implement asset-based approach to academic advising, set high expectations for students, and provide opportunities for ongoing staff professional development in areas relevant to advising such as the current and historical implications of systemic oppression on marginalized students
- Demonstrated excellence by being an equity-minded, inclusive leader
- Experience collecting and using disaggregated data to understand student needs and develop support structures for our most marginalized students
- May require traveling across campus to conduct work and deliver materials
- Present information at events and in meetings
- May require work during early mornings, nights, and weekends on occasion
- May require domestic travel, e.g. to advising-related conferences
