Appraiser I
- Starting Pay: $17.98/hour ($37,393 annually)
- After 1 Year: $18.52/hour ($38,515 annually)
- After 2 Years: $19.07/hour ($39,670 annually)
Appraiser II
- Starting Pay: $25.87/hour ($53,814 annually)
- After 1 Year: $26.67/hour ($55,474 annually)
- After 5 Years: $30.24/hour ($62,902 annually)
Appraiser III
- Starting Pay: $28.52/hour ($59,318 annually)
- After 1 Year: $30.33/hour ($63,094 annually)
- After 3 Years: $35.19/hour ($73,191 annually)
Minimum Qualifications
Appraiser I
- Michigan Certified Assessing Technician (MCAT).
- Must earn a Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO) certificate within two years of employment.
Appraiser II
- Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO).
Appraiser III
- Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer (MAAO).
All Levels: Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Essential Job Duties
- Prepare field sheets and drawings of properties or alterations.
- Inspect and appraise real and personal property to determine valuations.
- Classify property to calculate proper values.
- Verify new parcels and construction for tax rolls.
- Assist with annual equalization reports.
- Audit accounting records for corporations and individuals.
- Maintain cost data files and ensure accuracy of appraisals.
- Use the State Tax Commission Manual and Michigan Annual Report to determine valuations.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of state tax laws, real and personal property appraisals.
- Proficiency in BS&A Equalizer software, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with the public effectively.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under stressful conditions.
