Position Summary: The Day Camp Floater will monitor, lead, and control a group of children. This position will work with children, fellow counselors, and staff to provide a safe and meaningful summer day camp experience in a Christian environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide supervision to a small group of youth aged 6-12, at all times, on site and on field trips.
Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as assigned.
Be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures.
Assume duties of counselor when counselor is unavailable which may include:
Work with program staff to plan and execute daily activities as needed
Responsible for the welfare of the campers
Encourage camper participation in activities and classes in a constructive manner
Administration of emergency first aid as needed and recording such treatment with proper documentation to supervising staff.
Attend staff and training meetings
Help with the maintenance of all areas used by day camp.
Conform to the weekly schedule by attending all staff meetings.
Be aware of the mission statement of The Salvation Army and make every effort to be a positive representative of The Salvation Army, both on and off site.
Take on other responsibilities as directed by the Community Center Director.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years old.
Education/Experience:
Previous experience working with children a plus.
Previous experience supervising camper desired
Willingness to work as part of the ministry team with other staff members, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of arts & crafts a plus
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills required.
Certificates and Licenses:
Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
Complete First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days
