Manager Tax Systems & Special Projects
The Manager Tax Systems and Special Projects will assist the Tax Director and Tax team in development, implementation, administration, and enhancement of tax systems and products. Researches tax compliance & reporting process requirements and ensures that systems are modified to meet those requirements. Manages the annual Research and Development Tax Credit Study and supports other special projects as needed (i.e.CCAR/DFAST calculations).
Position Responsibilities
Tax Technology Project Management (assignments will vary depending on technology needs)
Serve as the primary Tax Department liaison on all projects affecting tax systems and tax processes.
Coordinate modifications or changes to tax processes resulting from system upgrades and replacements (e.g. DigiFi) with the Tax Department and external stakeholders.
Lead the design and implementation of a new Tax systems and processes through coordination with Accounting, IT, Treasury, Procurement, or other departments as necessary.
Assist the Tax Director in providing guidance to business stakeholders and vendors to ensure successful tax system transitions, achieve desired improvements and mitigate the risk of system disruption or ineffective reporting.
Prioritize identified issues in order of severity for timely resolution and assist in resolution of tax system-related issues.
Train and support tax team members and other stakeholders (as needed) in the use of core tax systems, technology tools, and procedures.
When new tax rules and legislation is adopted by the Corporation, perform the necessary tests and systems check to ensure new data requirements and other information is properly captured and processed to support the changes.
Tax System Processes and Controls Consultant
Assist the Tax Department in providing guidance (e.g. requirements) to business stakeholders to ensure successful system transitions, achieve desired improvements, and mitigate the risk of system disruption or ineffective reporting.
Oversee the testing and development of new reports or other queried data used for tax reporting purposes to ensure completeness and accuracy is maintained.
Determine follow up actions and make recommendation for identified gaps and potential efficiency improvement opportunities in tax processes and controls by leveraging technology in Comerica's existing portfolio or by advocating for new technology that would be beneficial and cost effective to the organization.
Evaluate the adequacy of controls for new or modified sources of tax information, processes and/or system conversions to ensure execution of the appropriate tax treatment and compliance with SOX.
Review and maintain all core tax systems policies and procedures. Assist the Tax Department with improving existing procedures and controls documentation.
Oversight of Special Projects
Manages the annual Research and Development Tax Credit Study by supervising the external provider team and coordinating with the leaders of the technology organization.
Supports the annual CCAR/DFAST calculations.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
5 years of experience in public accounting or at a corporation with increasing responsibility understanding, evaluation, and/or designing tax processes/systems, internal controls and financial data flows OR tax experience in a banking/financial services environment with experience in tax systems
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Preferred

8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday This position offers a hybrid work model that includes onsite and remote days as determined by the manager.
