Financial Services Accountant

Duties:

• Performs accounting functions for the County.
• Assists with preparing and reconciling monthly financial statements across multiple funds, bank accounts, and departments.
• Maintains general ledger accuracy by reconciling cash and bank statements, verifying budget alignment, and balancing revenues and Trust & Agency accounts with corresponding departments.
• Supports financial reporting and audit processes by preparing statements, schedules, and year-end entries (e.g., accruals and deferrals), and assisting external auditors during on-site reviews.
• Completes recurring reports and submissions as required.
• Coordinates administrative tasks, including preparing meeting agendas, recording accurate minutes, and serving as meeting secretary.
• Administers capital asset tagging and calculates and records annual depreciation in accordance with established policies.
• Provides backup support for Accounts Payable by learning and performing essential duties of that function.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related financial field and two years of related accounting experience, preferably in a governmental environment; OR
• Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related financial field and four years of related accounting experience, preferably in a governmental environment; OR
• High School diploma or equivalent and six years of related accounting experience, preferably in a governmental environment.

Special Requirements:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle throughout employment.
• A background check will be performed, and the candidate will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, including drug testing, as a condition of employment.  
• Must be available to work extended hours as needed during peak periods, including month-end and year-end.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
