Duties:
- Performs complex clerical and supervisory duties, overseeing daily operations of departmental clerical staff.
- Screens applicants, assists with interviews, recommends hires, and initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Evaluates employee performance, assigns and prioritizes work, approves schedules and leave, ensures staffing coverage, and maintains personnel records and timesheets.
- Trains staff on job duties and updates related to laws, court rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Evaluates office procedures and recommends or implements changes as directed.
- Serves as liaison with Trial Court and county offices, law enforcement, outside agencies, attorneys, and the public, providing information on departmental policies and procedures and resolving complex inquiries or complaints.
- Compiles data and prepares, reviews, and corrects statistical, activity, and state-mandated caseload and case flow reports, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to the State Court Administrative Office.
- Receives and processes bonds, fines, fees, restitution, and other payments; balances funds and performs bookkeeping duties.
- Oversees records management, including filing, retention, and destruction.
- Cross-trained in related Trial Court functions and performs subordinate duties as needed due to workload or staffing shortages.
- May assist in supervising volunteers and interns.

Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in business, office management, liberal arts, or criminal justice and a minimum of one year of supervisory experience in an office environment.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license throughout the course of employment.
- A pre-employment physical, drug test and background check are required before employment.
- Will be fingerprinted and subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds; reach and bend; and sit/stand for prolonged amounts of time.
- May be assigned to work at any Berrien County Trial Court location.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Proficiency in the use of standard computer software, particularly word processing and spreadsheet programs.
General knowledge of court and legal procedures, with the ability to exercise independent judgment to make decisions according to established procedures, policies, and court rules.
Will be required to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and interact professionally with the public.
