What you'll do
As the Senior Product Engineer, BEV Thermal Management for (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our R&D facility in , you will play a vital role in providing accurate, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions that work well within the limits of our manufacturing equipment and assembly capabilities. These solutions must meet customer expectations, perform for the desired warranty period, and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
You will also be responsible for overseeing product/mechanical projects through design, prototyping, validation, launch and documentation, and reporting phases. Your engineering solutions shall also encompass communization and simplification using Lean / Sigma techniques.
You will also be responsible for:
Utilizing mechanical engineering principles, materials, structural mechanics, and design principles to meet user requirements and design specifications
Optimizing design trade-offs for functionality, usability, cost, and risk with input from key stakeholders
Producing high-quality engineering deliverables for major model programs, starting at the planning stage and continuing through production
Developing system and technology concepts, cascading requirements, and project scoping using systems engineering and problem-solving tools and methods (e.g., Boundary Diagrams, P-diagrams, DFMEA, etc.)
Using engineering tools and processes such as DRBFM to ensure that the end product meets customer requirements
Authoring documentation to support design and risk management activities
Prototyping support for early-stage development work on a project basis
Developing tests and methods, performing test protocols, and contributing to creating intellectual property
Solving manufacturing and assembly problems utilizing problem-solving techniques and methodologies
Ensuring that suppliers are on track to meet key milestones
Gathering necessary documents for sourcing and providing technical expertise during the purchasing process
Creating an Engineering tree to comply with customer and vehicle specifications
Developing a solids model to correspond with the engineering tree
Implementing engineering changes and supporting warranty issue resolution
Collaborating with engineers, production personnel, purchasing personnel, suppliers and customers to create optimal solutions to support the business
Leveraging and directing outsourced engineers and designers
Utilizing Teamcenter to research product and spec history and structure and product compatibility

What you need to be successful
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
8+ years of product engineering expertise
5+ years of new product development experience
Experienced in the development and integration of powertrain
systems for commercial vehicles
Knowledgeable in the development and integration of thermal management for commercial vehicles (BEV)
Versed in leveraging 1D simulation and CFD to achieve robust and optimized designs
Experience with using NX (preferred) or similar CAD software
Proficiency in ANSI-Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Automotive parts knowledge for material selection, production processes, test methods, regulations and component/sub-system design development process
Mastery of BoM, FMEA, ECR process, and Root Cause analysis
Problem-solving skills in the areas of 5-Why, 8D, Fishbone diagrams, and Shainin
Familiarity with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)/American Standard Test Method (ASTM)
Must be able to work in a "Start-up" organization environment with unknown processes and procedures
Ability to travel up to 10% to support customer sales calls, identify, project scope, and present innovations to decision-makers
