Molecular Beam Epitaxy Engineer
Job Description:
The
MBE Engineer assists in the operation and maintenance of a key facility within
the company that produces high quality epitaxial III-V (InGaAs, InAlAs, & InP) semiconductor wafers.
These wafers are the first step in the fabrication of High Speed Optical
Receivers used for Telecom and Datacom. Attention to detail and an
ability to learn new technologies are extremely important.
Essential
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Do daily set-up of MBE growth rates and initiate epitaxial
wafer growths
Assist with the operation and
maintenance of various instruments used for the post-growth analysis of
semiconductor materials (High Resolution X-ray Diffractometer, Contactless
Sheet Resistivity, Electrochemical Capacitance-Voltage system, Hall Effect
measurements, phase contrast microscope, Surfscan)
Record, document, and track production
wafers and perform post-growth analysis
Track inventory of substrates, and
both in-house grown and externally purchased epitaxial wafers
Assist with repairs,
maintenance, and general upkeep of the Molecular Beam Epitaxy facility. This will include dealing with toxic and
flammable solids and small amounts of toxic gas 2 - 3 times a year
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:
Must have a minimum of 2 years
experience with at least one (preferably more) of the following
(experience gained during pursuit of a degree will be considered) :
Operation and/or maintenance of
vacuum deposition systems
Clean room experience
Adequate knowledge of chemical
processing
Associate or bachelor's Degree
in STEM field is preferred
Must be able to follow safety
rules when handling toxic and/or flammable materials during repairs and
maintenance, including wearing a full-face respirator
Basic computer skills (e.g. -
Microsoft Office & Excel) required
Understanding electronic
communications protocols between instruments and control computers is very desirable
Must be able to make careful
observations, notice when equipment shows abnormal behavior, and make
independent judgment on corrective action steps and seek guidance when
necessary
For maintenance purposes, must
be able to stand, bend, reach, and tighten bolts. Occasional lifting of objects up to 50
pounds will be required
Knowledge of Statistical
Process Control methodologies is desirable
Ability to work with limited or no
supervision
