Job Description Summary
The Research Scientist will work closely with the Aquatic Nitrogen Fixation Research Coordination Network leadership team to coordinate working group activities, participate in data syntheses and lead publications on group activities. The ANF-RCN is an NSF-funded project coordinated through a collaboration among Baylor University, Boston University, and Michigan Technological University and involving scientists from around the world studying nitrogen fixation along the freshwater-marine continuum. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with the flexibility to work independently and collaboratively and with strong organizational and leadership skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Participate in regular meetings with project PIs
2. Help organize workshops to be held at Michigan Tech and Baylor University.
3. Coordinate meeting scheduling, agendas and notes from working group activities.
4. Lead dataset organization and archiving.
5. Manage website and email lists.
6. Present results of RCN activities at national and international meetings
7. Lead reports and publications from the working group activities
8. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
* MS in Biological Sciences or related field
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
* 3-5 years of experience in scientific research project management
* Experience analyzing environmental data using R or other programming languages
* Experience presenting research results at meetings and conferences
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
* Expertise in biogeochemical cycling
* an established record of publication in scientific journals.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
* Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
* Previous research in aquatic ecosystems
* Familiarity with nitrogen cycling, especially nitrogen fixation
