Mechanic

• $26.66 - $28.75/ Hour
• Full Benefits Package

Duties:

• Maintains the fleet of heavy-duty trucks, tractors, loaders, excavators, Gradalls and graders.
• Performs maintenance on vehicles at all of the Road Department garages.
• Operates motor vehicles and various attachments, such as mounted plows, body mounted spreader, tanks, distributors, and trailers of various sizes and shapes.
• Handles specialized equipment, including front-end loaders, backhoes, tractor mowers, brush chippers, rollers, bucket trucks, distributors, patch trucks, etc.
• Repairs diesel engines.
• Troubleshoots and locates problems in hydraulic systems and corrects the issue as necessary.
• Analyzes and corrects electrical issues as defined to a heavy-duty piece of equipment.
• Inspects and performs minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including to servicing equipment, changing tires and oil and other lubricants.
• Uses electronic diagnostic programs to find engine problems and to monitor maintenance schedule of equipment.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience as a diesel mechanic.

Special Requirements:

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license with no restrictions for nighttime driving.
• Must have and maintain a Class-A Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an N or X tank endorsement and appropriate medical card.
• Employee will be subject to call-in during off duty hours as dictated by weather conditions.
• Must be available to work shifts exceeding 8 hours as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• The physical ability to manually lift and carry up to 80 pounds is essential to successful performance of job duties.
• Must be able to maintain an electronic record of daily work and repair orders by specific pieces of equipment.
