CompTIA Technical Training and Job Placement
Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids is partnering with area employers to fill entry level information technology (IT) positions. Entry level IT positions typically include work on a variety of software and hardware tasks. Tasks may include such things as password resets, fixing Windows errors, installing operating systems and other software, performing hardware upgrades, solving network errors, and addressing security concerns.
CompTIA Technical Certifications
To qualify for an entry level IT position, employers often look for a related IT certification. Goodwill is providing classroom training for four different CompTIA certifications.
- CompTIA IT Fundamentals+
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
One or more of these certifications are often required by employers looking to fill available IT positions. Each of these certifications are difficult but with a lot of hard work and persistence, many people can achieve one or more of these certifications. Depending on which training course a student is enrolled in, classes meet 3-5 hours per day. ITF+ meets once a week while the other certifications meet twice per week. ITF+ is self-paced while the other certifications meet for 12-15 weeks. A student should expect to spend an equal amount of time at home doing homework as they spend in the classroom.
Thanks to grant funding each of these certification training programs are available for free to people who meet certain criteria. For a person to qualify they must meet at least one of the following criteria.
- Have a significant disability (examples include but are not limited to professionally diagnosed depression, PTSD, bipolar, autism, Asperger’s, ADD, ADHD, anxiety, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, partial hearing and/or vision loss, deficits due to automobile and workplace accidents, birth defects, and so forth)
- Racial minority
- Veteran of the U.S. military
It is also important a person has a sincere interest in technology. Passing the exams necessary for the CompTIA A+ certification is a difficult task even for people with a technical background. For people who lack a technical background, it is still possible to pass each of these CompTIA certifications, but it will require a lot of studying. Please keep this reality in mind when deciding whether or not you would like to pursue this. For more information about these CompTIA certifications, please visit the following two links:
