Essential Function of Job:
Overall responsibility for operation of the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program. Directs and oversees the FGP/SCP program, including strategic planning, program development, fiscal management, stipend management, promotional activities, staff supervision, volunteer recruitment and management and coordination with agency and community resources. Ensures that the programs provide a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving the constituent population in their communities.

- Overall responsibility for planning and implementation of all phases of the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program.
- Select, train, and supervise project staff.
- Promoting community awareness of the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program (as outlined in the work plan) and working to secure local financial support for the project.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with all senior service providers in the service area.
- Establish and maintain a working relationship with prospective stations.
- Develop and implement a Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion orientation process for station staff.
- Develop and implement a Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion orientation process for volunteers.
- Develop and prepare Memorandums of Understanding to be signed by stations.
- Work in cooperation with stations to deliver initial Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion orientation for direct supervisors of the volunteers at each location.
- Coordinate staff activities to develop monthly in-service training for volunteers.
- Establish and maintain effective informal and formal recognition systems/programs for volunteers.
- Manage all program staff activities including, but not limited to, recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers.
- Complete program and fiscal reports in accordance with grant requirements.
- Work in cooperation with volunteer stations, and community resources to provide counsel and information to volunteers.
- Overall program evaluation.
- Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of volunteer placements, etc., effective transportation system for volunteers to get to and from placements and program activities.
- Prepare funding requests to the Corporation for National and Community Service, Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, and other funding sources as appropriate.
- Working knowledge of rules and regulations of program, as determined by state- and federal-level funding agencies
- Other related duties.
Requirements of Work
- Ability to communicate effectively and to analyze and solve problems.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate in a professional manner with supervisor, program staff, community partners (current or prospective) and others.
- Ability to deal effectively with people, especially with senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
- Ability to lead a high activity, multi-task team and effectively carryout multiple duties at one time.
- Become knowledgeable and foster awareness of community resources amongst program staff and volunteers.
- Willingness to participate on inter-agency committees where relevant.
- Have own transportation available
- Have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
- Be perceptive of troublesome areas within program.
- Ability to work with computers, especially database software applications, word processing, and e-mail.
- A satisfactory review of Criminal History background check.
- A satisfactory review of the National Service Criminal History Check which includes nation-wide check of the National Sex Offender Registry, statewide criminal history check and a fingerprinting FBI Check.
- A valid Driver’s License with a Satisfactory driving record review.
Desirable Minimum Training and Experience
- Administrative and supervisory experience.
- Experience in working with older persons and/or children.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, human services or related field.
