Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or another advanced degree in computer science or a similar field
5 years of experience performing server-systems design, implementation and administration, preferably with Linux
5 years of experience analyzing system failures, preferably with Linux
5 years of experience working with server class hardware, preferably with Linux
Linux, Solaris or AIX certification
Knowledge of operating systems, including Red Hat, Linux, Solaris and AIX
Experience taking projects from initial concept to implementation
Experience with web-based applications, including Apache, Nginx, Memcached and Redis
Advanced scripting experience with Bash, PHP and Python
Expert knowledge of SANs, clustering, backup and other enterprise applications
Strong communication skills
Job Summary
The Linux Systems Engineer plays a leading role in system design, implementation and administration. This individual applies his or her communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify and resolve issues that maximize the benefits of IT investments. The Linux Systems Engineer is also considered the subject matter expert for the systems they use.
Responsibilities
Identify and resolve complex performance issues
Utilize enterprise tools such as Puppet and Nagios to manage, monitor and secure enterprise data center environments
Maintain responsibility for the engineering, design and administration of Linux and other UNIX operating systems
Create automation solutions and collaborate with developers and clients
Monitor all networked software and associated operating systems
Ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of information systems
Mentor other team members
Participate in an on-call rotation
