RN Data Specialist I Responsibilities:
Professional, collegial, written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and focus on data accuracy required.
Must be familiar with the EHR, able to quickly, accurately, and efficiently abstract data, as required by the scope of work.
May be working on multiple projects; requires the ability to prioritize appropriately to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to create spreadsheets, presentations, and give presentations to interdisciplinary groups as required.
Ability to look at wider picture, determine performance improvement opportunities, and communicate those opportunities to the appropriate party.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing and currently registered in good standing with the State of Michigan. BA or BS degree in healthcare or business related field required. BSN preferred. For those hired into an RN position after January 1st, 2015, it is required to obtain a BSN within 5 years of start date.
Minimum five years of experience including clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting required. Experience in more than one clinical setting helpful. Medical-Surgical experience desired.
Demonstrated critical thinking and leadership in process improvement and project management preferred. Lean experience desired.
Possesses knowledge of the clinical capabilities of Munson Medical Center as well as knowledge of hospital organization and department functions.
Requires highly developed written, oral, and presentation communication skills; an ability to communicate with internal and external customers; employing a high level of tact and diplomacy; must possess strong consensus building skills.
Previous clinical chart review and abstraction experience and/or experience analyzing and interpreting processes of care and clinical outcomes preferred. Attention to detail and data accuracy required.
Ability to proficiently create and utilize databases, word-processing, spreadsheets, presentation programs and other software relevant to the job. Requires knowledge of hospital applications data-query software spreadsheets and report-generating software. Internet skills and literature search capabilities required.
Demonstrates knowledge of confidentiality as it pertains to HIPAA and the handling of information sensitive to Munson Healthcare.
ORGANIZATION
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Clinical Quality.
Collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Quality and/or the Director of Organizational Quality and Patient Safety or designee to prepare required (regularly scheduled and ad hoc) reports to the Quality and Patient Safety Committees, Medical Staff committees, and Hospital Departments as appropriate.
May report directly to the System VP of Quality and Patient Safety, Medical Staff Leadership, and peer review/performance improvement committee leaders.

Works with multidisciplinary teams to identify and investigate patient care quality/safety issues, events, or trends; recommends prevention strategies to improve healthcare delivery using process improvement techniques (e.g., root cause analysis, control and run charts, value stream mapping).
Maintains knowledge of current PI methodologies and clinical informatics through regular review of literature, conference attendance, participation in professional organizations, etc.
Serves as a resource to colleagues throughout the medical center. May act as a resource for Administrative/Departmental requests in the absence of the Manager of Clinical Quality.
May support physician sections/departments and medical staff peer review activities, including Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE)/Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).
