Job Description and Responsibilities:
Coherent Inc. is a manufacturer and supplier of state-of-the-art high-powered precision electro-optical components and laser based solutions for medical, scientific and commercial applications. Our Laser products are used in a range of applications, including microelectronics, scientific research and government programs, OEM components and instrumentation, and materials processing markets.The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the on-site installation, training, and servicing of leading edge industrial laser systems. This person will play an important role in serving as a company liaison with the customer on technical and administrative levels. In addition, this position will work closely with the Product Support Team as well as the engineering Team to make product improvements. Preferred location is the Upper Mid-West states of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, or Illinois.The Field Service Engineer will:• Play a critical role in leading delivery of the service needs of our customers within the region• Perform the onsite installation, training, preventative maintenance, upgrade and repair of our complex laser and optical systems• Diagnose and trouble shoot customer issues through statistical analysis and evaluation of laser system reliability• Will test, tune, and adjust equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.• Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements.• Support sales activities by collecting and forwarding relevant information• Report spare part requirements• Serve as company liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects• Provide technical support via telephone/email and serve as a communication link with the internal factory staff
Education and Work Experience:
Candidate must possess the following:
Requires an Associate's degree in a scientific, technical, or photonics related field or equivalent experience
2 - 3 years' Field Service experience
Experience with laser or optics highly desirable
Computer literate Education and Work Experience
Problem solving skills to be able to troubleshoot electronic, electro-optical, electrical, & mechanical problems
Ability to work closely with a team as well as independently
Exceptional customer service skills
Excellent written and verbal communications
Command of written and spoken English
