The Driver is responsible for transporting DCC customers to and from various programs, employment interviews, employment, medical appointments, group trips and any scheduled trip and/or assignment designated by dispatch. The Driver processes and completes all necessary paperwork in a timely manner, which includes logging transportation information, both handwritten and computer based. This position also fills in for the Dispatcher when needed, and must be able to perform those duties also.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Responsible for transportation runs which includes picking-up customers and dropping them off at various locations, then transporting the customers on return trips via the DCC Van, SMART Bus or SMART Van. Responsible to review and check transportation schedule before departure and to bring to the attention of dispatch and/or the coordinator any issues or concerns Prepares each days route, makes any necessary changes, and notifies customers of any changes in arrival or departure times. Performs vehicle inspections and maintenance. This includes ensuring the vehicles have the appropriate amount of gas, oil, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid, and that the handicap accessibility equipment is functional. Cleans the interiors and exteriors of the DCC vehicles, as needed and directed. Notifies management when vehicles are in need of repair and provide appropriate paperwork. Maintains a driving log and keeps track of mileage on all DCC vehicles. Inspects and completes an inspection form before departure and/or when changing vehicles. Ensures that safety equipment is on-board and vehicle including tires are in good operating condition. Makes copies and properly files all completed drivers reports, transportation requests, and vehicle inspection forms. Responsible for maintaining good customer relations and services. Performs various departmental and/or agency tasks, as assigned.
Drivers must be willing to work any shift including a split-shift if necessary and be willing to adapt or change shift hours, including weekends as needed. Maintains contact with dispatch at all times, agency-issued cell phone must be charged daily and in good working order at all times. If cell phone is lost or damaged the driver must report this immediately to the coordinator and Planning Director. Ensures that appropriate tools of the trade, such as maps, flashlights, jumper cables, cell phone, drivers license, insurance information, emergency equipment, and medical safety kit are on-board and in order at all times and during all trips. Ensures that any accident/incident is reported immediately upon return to the building, within one hour after the event. A written accident/incident report must be completed and submitted to the manager within 24 hours. Provides assistance to passenger with disabilities. Schedules, books, confirms and logs all customer transportation requests. Ensures that the daily scheduled route assignments are completed. Makes any necessary changes, and notifies customers of any changes in arrival/departure times. Updates and maintains transportation database, MIS and KIDSMART programs. Maintains constant contact with drivers by cellular telephone/radio. Seeks and secures replacement driver, when necessary. Must have knowledge to operate various office equipment, including the telephone, fax machine, cellular telephones and the copier.
Minimum of a Chauffer's License required.
