Summary:
Function as a member of the clinical team, provide direct patient care and promote effective and harmonious interdisciplinary team function through leadership, clinical supervision and oversight of daily operations.
Age Specific Responsibility:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
Essential Job Responsibilities- Clinical
- Provide patient care, treatment and services within the scope of their license, certification as required by law and regulation
- Evaluate patient condition
- Establish treatment goals, written treatment plan, and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals; delegate responsibilities to assistants and rehabilitation technicians as appropriate
- Re-evaluate patient's status and effects of treatment; revise treatment plan as necessary; evaluate patient's need for medical equipment and orders the appropriate equipment as necessary
- Evaluate equipment upon delivery and instructs patient, patient's family, and health care workers on its use
- Participate in planning for patient discharge by considering patient, family, community support/services, and environmental limitations
- Document patient's status and progress through initial evaluation, progress notes, and discharge summary according to internal/external time standards and requirements set by Centers for Medicare/ Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory and accreditation bodies
- with others to integrate specific therapy treatment in optimizing total patient care
- Participate in conferences/discussions and exchange of written records with other interdisciplinary team members to integrate specific therapy treatment plan
- Instruct the patient and the family in specific therapy procedures as part of the home program; provide written instructions as necessary
- Instruct the visiting public, medical students, physicians, and other professionals in the methods of and objectives in area of expertise
- Function as a patient advocate and maintains patient confidentiality
- Educational Responsibilities:
- Provide education/training of staff in the form of in-services
- Participates in program development and/or research activities as requested.
- Serves as a resource person for patient care in areas of recognized clinical expertise.
- Serves as a Clinical Instructor for specified therapy students. Supervises, teaches, and evaluates skills of students. Communicates with participating universities regarding skill levels of students.

- Assure appropriate staffing levels and adequate supplies and equipment for all areas of responsibility
- Achieve success by meeting performance indicators, standards, and annual performance targets
- Lead selection, training and performance of staff related to assigned areas of responsibility
- Responsible for assuring all staff maintain proper training related to pertinent skills, competencies, standards of behavior, and compliance
- Conduct systematic performance review of all staff
- Communicate and facilitate rapport with staff that secures a highly engaged team who consistently achieves patient satisfaction score goals
- Patient Care:
- Oversight of patient assignment process
- Assure that appropriate clinical standards of care are met for patients in areas of assigned responsibility, in accordance with hospital goals, policies and procedures and accreditation standards.

- Responsible for identifying and maintaining therapy equipment and supplies to meet patient needs
- Provide input to Rehab Director in budget planning process

Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology program.
- Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Michigan.
- Minimum 4 years work experience in a relevant clinical rehabilitation setting.
- Possesses and demonstrates expertise in a specific diagnostic area of rehabilitation.
- Possesses and maintains CPR certification to meet department/program protocol.
- The physical ability to lift, position, and transport patients with physical impairments.
- Demonstrates ability to supervise students.
- Physical Demands

- The ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist, crawl, grasp, reach, and occasionally climb.
- The ability to hear, speak, write, and see (correctable vision).
- The ability to frequently lift up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift in excess of 75 pounds.
- The ability to occasionally push, pull, or carry weight anywhere from 1 to 100+ pounds while assisting patients and moving equipment.
- The ability to exert up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-20 pounds of force frequently, and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Other Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Experience with government reimbursement systems and other regulatory bodies related to service line.
- Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardware required to meet job responsibilities.
