The Simulation Center Technician works together with the Director of Simulation Education and LSSU Faculty Educators to create lifelike immersive medical simulation productions so that learners may practice their lifesaving skills and behaviors. The position requires basic technical skills proficiency, a creative resourcefulness, an organizational expertise, and an aptitude for learning quickly.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts medical simulation activities under the Delegation of the Simulation Director and direction of faculty educators.
- Transforms medical case scenarios into realistic simulated learning environments which include.
- Integrating audio and video technology into simulation learning activities.
- Utilizing available resources and technologies – including moulage, programming, props, wardrobe, and set design.
- Creating new and innovative solutions to improve on the realism of simulation activities.
- Developing and refining technical skills expertise.
- Role-plays as needed for simulation activities.
- Assists with Simulation Center orientation, tours, and training activities which include:
- Operate or assist with the operation of the Simulator for all training sessions.
- Provides or assist with the instruction of American Heart Association BLS provider courses.
- Provides routine simulator, computer, and audio/video equipment maintenance and the set-up, programming, operation, and monitoring of simulation software, computers, and simulators (computerized mannequins and task trainers), digital video cameras, projectors, audio/video mixers, editing software, and graphic design software.
- Provides some technical support which include:
- Testing, cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
- Works with Vendors and LSSU’s IT Department regarding hardware and software interfacing and troubleshooting.
- Monitors stock levels and maintains storage areas to a high standard which include:
- Recommendations for equipment and supply purchases.
- Disposal and repair procedures.
- Maintains the operational integrity of the Simulation Center which includes:
- Documents all simulation activities and assists in maintaining a record of all educational activities.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Displays a high degree of initiative, energy, dedication, and innovation on a regular basis.
- Maintains the Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and optimal learning environment.
- Supports and upholds INACSL's standards of best practice for simulation and all other applicable policies and procedures of Lake Superior State University (LSSU), LSSU's School of Nursing, and the WMH/Superior Simulation Center (SSC).
- Must be organized and able to communicate appropriately in all types of situations.
- Demonstrates effective teamwork and team membership at all times, able to work independently, and problem solve efficiently.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Current valid certification in a health-related field such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) AND one year of full-time paid experience in direct patient care.
Experience with computer software, audiovisual, and wireless communication systems preferred.
Must be able to perform physically (with or without reasonable accommodations) and safely in the simulation setting including the ability to lift, push, and pull up-to 50 lbs., and walk/stand for extended periods of time.
Required hours for this position are 20-24 but can vary widely depending on Simulation Center needs. Scheduled shifts are primarily Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, with some variable hours required in evenings and possibly weekends.
