Job Summary:
Comfort Keepers' Core Caregivers are our steadily scheduled field staff. These Core Caregivers provide homemaking, personal care and other support services to clients according to Comfort Keepers' individualized care plans.

Non-Exempt, Variable Hour
After 6 consecutive months of employment averaging 30+ hours per week, Full-time Caregivers will be eligible for benefits. Health insurance, Vision, Dental, 401K with match.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred, but individuals who are actively finishing high school equivalency and are over the age of 18 may be considered. Applicant must be bondable and meet or exceed minimum qualifications for each of the following background checks: Criminal Background Investigation, Motor Vehicle Driving Record, Professional and Personal Reference Checks, and give permission to submit to random drug and alcohol testing. Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, automobile insurance and fulfill assignments with reliability and punctuality.
Must satisfactorily complete Comfort Keepers training and orientation program. Must accept responsibility for learning and adhering to Comfort Keepers policies and procedures, be able to function in the home setting with minimal direct supervision and maintain satisfactory relationships with administrative staff, clients, and family members. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and document services provided.
Must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.
Essential Functions for Core Caregiver:
- Performs caregiving duties with a holistic approach centered on ensuring the highest quality of life possible for every client, every shift.
- Performs duties as assigned in each client's individualized Plan of Care (POC).
- Assists the client in completion of activities of daily living (ADLs) by providing any of the Comfort Keepers approved personal care activities including, but not limited to: bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, oral hygiene, and/or ambulation.
- Provides for a clean, safe, and healthy environment for clients and family members. Provides light housekeeping tasks including laundering of client's garments and linens, changing the bed, cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas, and other light tasks as assigned.
- Assists in meeting nutritional needs by providing meal planning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, dishes, and kitchen clean-up.
- Assists the client with ambulation/transfers as specified in the Plan of Care.
- Reminds client to take self-administered medications.
- Observes and reports any changes in the client's mental, physical, or emotional condition or home situation to office staff as soon as possible according to company procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and a professional relationship with clients, family members, and co-workers.
- Participates in in-service and continuing education programs, staff meetings, and client conferences as requested by immediate supervisor.
- Completes required documentation (Care logs and Care Notes) and submits to office in a timely manner according to policy.
- Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding client information.
- Other reasonable related duties as assigned.
Commitment Requirements:
Caregivers must commit to the following:
- Must commit to a 12 hour window of availability including at least one weekend day. Core Caregivers must have flexibility to accept shifts that may begin or end outside of their current availability commitment to a reasonable extent, averaging a minimum of 30 hours per week.
In the event that a regularly scheduled shift becomes unavailable (for example, a client cancels the shift last minute or is hospitalized), Core Caregivers must accept replacement shifts within a 30 mile radius of their home that have comparable time frames.
- Caregivers must accept shifts within their availability that are equal to or less than 30 miles from their residence during the rolling schedule period. This excludes same day pickup shifts, which are optional but encouraged.
- Must provide the office with 30 day written notice if availability is expected to change.
- Caregivers must complete all trainings agreed upon at hire or pass competency exams. At a minimum; Care Academy (online) training, Basic Competency Training and Personal Care Training and Transfer Training before two weeks of employment. Further training may be assigned in order to strengthen Caregiver skill and increase the number of clients available to be scheduled to a Caregiver.
- In order to be scheduled appropriately and provide the best possible care for clients, Core Caregivers must be vigilant in adhering to Comfort Keepers attendance policy. If it is decided that a Core Caregiver is proving unreliable, we reserve the right to transfer the caregiver to the Custom or On Demand category. Core Caregivers are expected to recognize and demonstrate that attendance is key when providing reliable care to clients.
- If any of these commitment requirements are not met, Caregiver will be transferred to On Demand or Custom Caregiver classification.
Working Environment:
Client home setting and automobile. Contact with blood or other body fluids may pose a risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases, but can be mitigated by use of universal precautions and proper hygiene.
Position Physical Demands:
The work requires moderate physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis, such as driving, assisting clients in transfer activities and ambulation, and light housekeeping. Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear, reach, kneel, and crouch. Lifting only up to 25 pounds is permitted and may be required.
