Currently, we are looking for survey analysts to join our vibrant and growing Human Services division. This position supports ongoing project teams throughout the division in the planning and execution of projects for clients such as: The U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Education, Health and Human Services, Justice, and Labor, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and numerous state and local agencies. Mathematica is seeking survey analysts who will conduct studies and support program improvement in family support, education, child development and welfare, nutrition, employment, criminal justice, and related topics.
- Human Services Survey Analysts*draw on methodological training, content knowledge, leadership abilities, and strong communication to perform varied survey research project work related to survey design and planning, and survey operations management. They use innovative approaches and incorporate technology to collect data efficiently. Survey analysts may work across content areas or focus on one or more specific content areas. Examples of work they perform include designing data collection efforts; developing and testing survey, observation, or other data collection instruments; developing and conducting trainings; writing OMB clearance packages; managing data collection operations; leading teams; reviewing paradata; and tracking and reporting project operations. Analysts may also conduct literature reviews and scans; engage with local sites such as schools and districts to recruit and coordinate their study participation; support qualitative data collection, including conducting interviews and focus groups and supporting analyses through cleaning, coding, organizing, and analyzing data.
Roles and responsibilities typically include:
- Engaging with diverse clients and stakeholders to build trust and rapport, gather input, and provide high-quality work, thoughtful recommendations, and responsive communication
- Supporting senior staff in project leadership (such as data collection design, task planning and oversight, progress reporting, monitoring subcontractor activity)
- Developing project materials (such as survey instruments, training materials, operations manuals, quality control specifications)
- Training interviewers
- Designing and testing instruments including conducting pretests and cognitive interviewing
- Managing data collection and quality control efforts
- Mentoring and coordinating work of other staff
- Collaborating with statisticians, programmers, and researchers to produce high quality work
- Preparing memos and assisting with writing sections of descriptive reports and proposals
Exhibiting initiative to take on new opportunities, further own professional development, and become an organizational leader
Master's or Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience in a social science or related field
- Familiarity and experience with data collection tools and methods
- Strong analytic skills, including knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
- Ability to think critically
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write clear and concise technical memos and documents
- Demonstrated organizational skills and careful attention to detail
- Ability to complete tasks on tight deadlines without compromising quality
- Familiarity and experience with standard MS packages, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with others
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on teams
- Willingness to travel domestically, as needed (travel is not occurring during the public health crisis)
- Willingness to be flexible with work hours and assignments
- Spanish, or other language fluency is a plus

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $60,000-$90,000. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of working on certain projects. If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance.
