Job Description
Recognized as technical leader and resource. Provides experienced consultation in one or more areas for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems. Recommends alterations and improvements to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Responsible for all internal activities and product development. Demonstrates expertise in the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs multiple tasks. Showcase a wide range of creativity and latitude. Complex assignments require originality, creativity, and a wider application of principles, theories, and concepts. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Addresses the broadest and most complex problems of multiple disciplines within the business unit or division. Gives to strategy and policy development and/or develops guidelines and implementation procedures for new strategies and policies.

Job Responsibilities
* Lead the design development and integration of highly complex and large scope program with multiple rows of seats with varying scope.
* Coordinate integration and tradeoffs between seat systems to optimize the overall seat enterprise cost while ensuring program requirements are achieved
* Provide technical leadership for overall seat performance and associated tradeoffs for comfort, crash worthiness, cost, mass, etc.
* Communicate technical direction, coordinate read across, and coordinate cross program changes with DREs
* Collaborate SI engineers, internal technical resources, vehicle program teams, purchasing, design staff on design solutions while ensuring alignment to program and SMT objectives.
* Lead the development and maintenance of the program seat system, seat components and integration DFMEAs
* Coordinate, track, manage and optimize enterprise piece and tooling costs for a complex large scope seat development activity
* Lead focused problem-solving efforts on significant cost/quality/warranty issues on seat programs
* Leverage program specific learnings to expand the overall GM seat system knowledge base by demonstrating outstanding problem-solving skills and knowledge management
* Demonstrate exemplary commitment to customer focused product development
* Utilize DFSS methodologies to insure robust design development and trade off management.
Required Skills and Experience
* Bachelor of Science - Engineering
* Extensive experience in seat system development with demonstrated levels of outstanding performance.
* Demonstrated sub system expertise in structures and mechanisms.
* Detailed knowledge of seat performance requirements including regulations and best practices
* Demonstrated early product development to launch expertise and capability
* Demonstrated ability to coach and lead internal and external resources
* Thorough understanding of seat system requirements and trade offs
* Excellent cross-functional communication skills - able to build effective coalitions
* Ability to break down complex issues into understandable pieces
* Ability to explain technical issues in simple terms
* Demonstrated ability to "deal with ambiguity" while driving timely decision making toward issue resolution
* Demonstrated people leader skills to motivate and empower employees to enable optimized levels of performance and execution.
* Ability to manage a multitude of assignments, program deliverables and launches strategic with high levels of composure and effective implementation.
* Strong design and manufacturing background to coach and guide engineers in developing robust design solution from a product manufacturing/assembly standpoint.
* Experience in developing Design Best Practices / Lesson Learned to support 100% virtual validation
* Able to coach engineers in using our engineering tools (product design and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly tools) or able to identify new tools to support 100% virtual validation
* Leverage Benchmarking / voice of the customer to define best in class execution for our products
* Experience in Statistics, Mechanics of materials, Finite element, Vehicle/occupant packaging, Integrated Design, and Design for Manufacture
* Experience within a structure, Just In time facility (JIT), and Vehicle assembly plants during a launch event
* Experience with mechanism integration, electrical interface and seat packaging.
* Familiar with GD&T, DFMEAs and PFMEAs
* Strong skills in Free Body Diagrams (MS Excel), load calculations, and hand calculations to estimate manual efforts to operate seats.
* Knowledge of energy management solutions resulting from dynamic events.
* FEA setup, boundary condition development, and correlations to physical testing. (Defining constraints).
* DFSS Component selection and Design robustness. (Certified Black Belt preferred)
* Background in mechanisms or seat structures engineering desired
* VAVE tools, knowledge and experience for mass reduction and cost reduction preferred.
* Physics-based engineering model tools to optimize design parameters
* Power seats speed of operation engineering calculations (excel / mat lab)
* Project management skills required to lead component supplier product teams.
* Tactical planning (macro, micro, personal) skills required
* Customer Feedback data analysis (JD Powers, Warranty, etc.) to develop customer loss functions
* Stamping / forming / welding process understanding
* Material knowledge pre/post processing (including strain hardening)

* RED-X problem solving skills for subsystem and vehicle performance.
