The Michigan Medicine Department of Surgery, Section of Pediatric Surgery is seeking a full-time Director of the HOPE Collaborative to work with the faculty and staff at the HOPE Collaborative. This position will work with the collaborative faculty directors in the day-to-day operations of the collaborative to execute the mission and vision. The HOPE (Health Equity, Opportunity, Pipeline, Education) Collaborative aims to broaden the impact of academic medicine by collaborating with community partners to address the most pressing educational, social and advocacy issues that prevent children and families from achieving their goals.
The Director will work closely to establish and maintain programmatic development of HOPE’s Scholars of Tomorrow platform (Doctors of Tomorrow, Lawyers of Tomorrow, Engineers of Tomorrow, Educators of Tomorrow) with the faculty leads and department staff to manage the following:
- Project and Program Management (40%) – oversee and curate two weekly seminars for fellows and faculty, development and implementation of focused curriculum, educational supplements designed to augment academic success for students, development of other learning opportunities for the community as needed, lead implementation of interventions aimed at reducing disparities
- Proposal Management (20%) – lead the development of proposals to both federal and non-federal sponsors, monitor funding opportunities, prepare annual reporting to funders, track expenses, ensure spending is to budget
- Financial oversight (15%) – monitor operating budgets and sponsored funds, ensuring that funds are being spent according to sponsor-approved budgets and in a timely manner, coordinating with grants administrators as necessary on purchases, effort allocations, etc.
- Research (10%) – oversee efforts to evaluate programmatic implementations.
- Administrative (10%) – coordinate regular team meetings, coordinate small and large scale events as they arise, management of event budgets, coordination with vendors and procurement, facilities, and executing the vision of faculty leads
- Additional duties as assigned
- Experience in project and program management, specifically in education and curriculum development
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite
- Experience with proposal development
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and time-management skills, project management skills
- Experience and knowledge in urban education and educational needs of inner-city children
- Experience in education policy, curriculum development, educational interventions, pipeline programs and/or community engagement
Intermediate Requirement: Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years considerable professional experience with reasonable prior management, supervisory or team leader experience is required.
Senior Requirement: Bachelor's or Master's degree and 5 years considerable professional experience with reasonable prior management, supervisory or team leader experience is required.
- Master’s or doctorate degree in a related field
- Familiarity with M-Reports and/or M-Pathways Financial & Physical Resources System,
- Experience with Concur and University reimbursement and purchasing policies
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
The successful candidate will have experience working with and supporting faculty and collaborative groups. Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are all required attributes. Individuals with experience in curriculum development, intervention design and implementation, and program management will be strongly preferred.
