POSITION SUMMARY
The MRI Scheduler provides excellent customer service to all patients and their family members. This individual verifies patient demographic information and insurance eligibility, determines co-pay amounts and collects those co-pays for the imaging exam, obtains authorization when required, prints encounter form/fee ticket, performs charge entry duties, prints MRI orders for the technician on duty to review for any discrepancies and works to resolve any that need attention before the appointment, conducts end of day reconciliation, and posts any payments received.
SUPERVISION: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Registers and updates patient demographics upon arrival for appointment.
- Prepares patient for MRI when needed.
- Verify insurance eligibility, and obtain authorizations via the phone and/or internet access as required by patients insurance prior to MRI appointment, and document appropriately in NextGen with corresponding order.
- Monitor scheduled appointments for the MRI Department and maintain status of authorizations. Schedules or reschedules patients for the MRI Department.
- Communicate effectively with Alliance MRI staff which procedure will be performed and confirm all necessary paperwork is available.
- Place safety clearance calls with scheduled patients when needed.
- Updating patients charts with additional documentation etc.
- Review and troubleshoot any potential issues on a MRI order before scheduled appointment.
- Documentation of requests or changes to appointments, or changes for authorizations in the EMR system.
- Acts as a liaison between the patients/visitors and the professional staff.
- Answer clinical/staff questions about authorizations, how to proceed with an authorization, troubleshooting, reconsiderations, and appeals when needed.
- Communicating effectively with staff the need of current documentation.
- Documentation and validation of MRI study on the Envision Radiology site for interpretation of images, provide any comparison images that a radiologist may need, any other troubleshooting that may be needed by Envision Radiology.
- Monitor supplies needed for patients and office and order according to office process.
- Answer phone calls.
- Perform other duties or functions as assigned.
REQUIRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in medical registration, scheduling or billing preferred.
- One year experience of insurance authorization and verification.

- Ensure compliance with all OAM policies and procedures.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY FACTORS
- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
- Exposed to and must interact with patients who are of diminished mental capacity, incarcerated and physically handicapped.
- Exposed to moderate levels of noise
- Requires good body mechanics due to amount of computer work involved
Motor, sensory and physical requirements:
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Frequent bending , stooping, lifting and reaching required
- Employee may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment
- Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Maintain current and relative knowledge of third party payer requirements.
- Maintain current and relative knowledge of Federal and State billing regulations and guidelines.
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of and experience with automated billing systems.
- Ability to type at minimum 45 words per minute.
- Accurate data entry skills with knowledge of basic keyboarding.
