This position is at the Smith Family Breast Center at Copper Ridge. The most qualified candidate will have some patient contact experience. Position would include direct patient care such as assisting technical and nursing staff with holding pressure on breast biopsy wounds, transporting and moving patients with various levels of handicaps, and acting as a department assistant providing assistance to the staff as needed. This position also includes responsibilities for linen orders, keeping patient care areas stocked and tidy, providing patient comfort, and performing various weekly and monthly safety checks such as eyewash stations and fire extinguishers. Data specialist skills are needed to work with image requests, transfers to PACS, and importing images from other facilities. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Effective communication skills, particularly in the areas of answering multi-line telephones, receiving messages, communicating effectively with members of the Medical Staff and fellow employees.
Intermediate office and general clerical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
Possess the ability to work independently while maintaining a team effort.
Medical terminology and prior hospital/office experience is desirable.
Ability to communicate effectively with both public and coworkers orally and in writing.
Applicants must have basic typing, keyboarding and/or computer skills, with excellence in grammar and spelling.
The person must be highly mobile to accompany patients, family and visitors.
Must be professional and well organized, capable of performing the required duties under frequently stressful situations.
Experience in an ambulatory primary care office setting, clerical position with a solid understanding of Radiology procedures.
Knowledge of Radiology studies and clinical procedures .
One-year prior experience in record keeping, filing, and various other clerical duties and in the use of a computer required.
ORGANIZATION: Under the general supervision of the Radiology Leadership, but may receive assistance and direction from the Radiologists, Managers, Director and other members of the department.
Provides continuous interaction with patients and families, representing Munson healthcare to the community. Maintains satisfactory working relationships with Radiology staff, ancillary departments, nursing units, patient access services, physicians and physician offices.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Contributes to the daily processing of x-ray examinations.
Maintain the integrity of the medical image and text component of the electronic medical record.
Reproduce soft copy images from digital recording devices (CDs).
Manage off-site film digitizing.
Assist referring physicians and consultants in the use of computerized physician records.
Work closely with staff at affiliates.
Utilizes the Radiology Information System to order studies on referred films.
Routes electronic images in the PACS to various locations throughout the Munson Healthcare System as requested.
Assists in the completion of all record retrieval requests.
Provides operating room with all requested images.
Follows established guidelines with respect to document control.
Performs procedures relating to documentation of charges.
Investigates incomplete reports and initiates action to ensure completion in order that the appropriate professional charges may be processed.
Aids in the administration of area policy and procedures.
Assists in orienting and training new personnel where applicable.
Adheres to hospital and departmental policies concerning confidentiality and release of information.
Cooperates in the maintenance of the work area.
Keeps the work area clean and in orderly condition.
Reports to supervisor all discrepancies in the work environment.
Contribute to area productivity and efficient departmental operations.
Performs all work assignments in an accurate manner with minimal errors.
Completes work assignments within a reasonable time frame.
Maintains a high degree of accuracy when entering patient demographics in the PACS database, and when digitizing film (mammography center).
Must be able to multi task, work independently, and determine priorities of workload.
Keep office and work area orderly and properly stocked.
Keep dressing rooms stocked.
Required to work cooperatively with other team members of the department to achieve optimal customer service and achievement of departmental goal.
Acts as first contact for outpatients coming into or telephoning the Radiology department.
Confirm appointments for patients in QES.
Verifies patient information, Face sheets and orders.
Instructs patients as to changing instructions needed for exam or procedure.
Working knowledge of RightFax, RADNET, STAR, QES, Munson Medical Center paging system, and Cerner.
Print daily face sheets and physician orders for scheduled patients.
Instruct patients how to change for exam being performed.
Call physician offices for patient orders when necessary.
For certain procedures, obtains information on patient history and necessary follow-up.
When notified of delays by technologist, explains them to patients in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
May provide information to promote patient understanding of procedures, treatments, and preps.
Answers telephone in a timely and courteous manner. Provides requested information, such as reading Radiologists reports, answering questions about a procedure or arranging for loan of images. Directs calls to proper source.
