ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Graduation of an approved Surgical Technology Training Program or Licensed Practical Nurse with previous scrub experience.
BCLS required.
Surgical Technologist certification required (C.S.T. or N.C.C.T.).
ORGANIZATION
Supervised by the OR Manager, OR Coordinator or designee.
Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in delivering safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period.
Works collaboratively and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

In accordance with AST, AORN and AAMI standards, ensures the presence of all instruments and supplies for surgical procedure; inspects instrument trays and packages for sterile integrity prior to delivery to the sterile field.
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, works collaboratively and effectively with all members of the healthcare team in delivering safe care to all patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique, including all areas of surgical asepsis.
Prepares and maintains the sterile field and addresses any breaks in sterility immediately.
Assists the surgeon with surgical procedures as requested within scope of practice.
Assists in the transportation and positioning of patients when necessary.
Works collaboratively with the Registered Nurse to correctly label and handle all surgical specimens.
Assists with the decontamination and processing of instruments as needed during normal business hours and if called while on-call. Sprays instruments at the point of care and follows departmental guidelines when caring for all equipment and instrumentation.
Participates in the development of Operating Room procedures.
Takes call on a rotating basis during weeknights, weekends and holidays.
Assists in other areas of the hospital as directed by the Manager.
May act as a preceptor for new employees or students.
Assists with the cleaning of the operating room during normal hours of operation and if called into support a surgical case while on call.
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
