Job Summary
Develop and implement a Life Skills curriculum that will support the development of skills for self-sufficiency and interpersonal relationships for youth, between the ages of 16 - 21, living in IL Plus homes and/or IL Provider homes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop a Life Skills curriculum for IL Plus and IL program participants.
Train Youth Support Workers and the Life Skills Coaches on the curriculum in order to assure ongoing support for the youth.
Communicate regularly with the Case Managers and Youth Support Staff and IL Supervisor regarding implementation of the Life Skills Plan for each youth.
Coordinate with Case Manager and Youth Support staff to schedule and conduct group activities focused on building Independent Living Skills.
Monitor youths' activities to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Report non-compliance with Life Skills Training Plan, to the Team Leader and/or Case Manager.
Maintain communication with Youth Life Skills Coaches and Case Managers to ensure youth are adhering to and actively participating in their specific Life Skills training plan.
Schedule and Facilitate group training sessions for Youth Support Workers and Life Skills Coaches.
Participate in treatment planning meeting with each youth as needed or requested.
Become familiar with and assist Life Skills Coaches in creating a network of community resources that can be used to enhance of youths Independent Living Skills.
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
Associates degree in social service or related field or minimum 60 hours coursework of secondary education in social service or related field.
Professional training in social work, social services or child development preferred.
Experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability and willingness to display compassion and sensitivity to youth.
Ability and willingness to relate and educate youth who are in transition from foster care or residential placement to independent living. Ability to deal with a variety of circumstances; ability to recognize problem and respond and/or take appropriate action.
Ability to work creatively and effectively in team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to effectively communicate with others on an interpersonal level.
Ability to understand the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the youth served.
Ability to guide youth in understanding and applying basic life management skills.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to use basic math skills.
Ability to read, speak and legibly write English language with proper use of punctuation, spelling and grammar.
Bi-lingual in Spanish (or the Major language of the youth in care) preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of youth information.
Additional Work Requirements
Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current registration and automobile insurance.
Ability to maneuver up and down staircases.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to move freely about. Near visual acuity; hand-eye coordination.
