SUMMARY:
The Water Technician Apprentice performs duties in water plant operations including chemical analysis and treatment, process operation and maintenance of plant equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operate basic water treatment plant equipment and processes to continually monitor plant-wide operations.
Take equipment and process readings at various locations throughout the plant. Load and unload chemicals, polymers, and other materials manually and using motorized equipment. Collect and perform tests on water samples.
Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment. Maintain various records and prepare reports. Perform shift work which includes all day, afternoon, night, weekend and holiday assignments. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
A valid Michigan Driver’s License and the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain. Follow security and
safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties. Provide on the job training.
RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:
Regularly inspect the working condition and maintain the cleanliness of equipment and surrounding areas. Clean
light fixtures, replace lamps and bulbs. Communicate problems to team leader or members. Assist with clearing snow in emergency situations. Conduct plant tours and deliver other presentations as needed. Perform related work duties as assigned.
PAYSCALE:
Starts at 16.74 and after 6 months goes to 17.74 after six months
FORECASTED START DATE:
On boarding will be June 27th and then start date of either July 11th or July 18th
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
The Water Technician – Level 4 may be required to perform team coordination activities within the functional unit.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Various stages of water treatment: low lift pumping, chemical feed systems, flocculation and sedimentation,
ozonation, filtration, chlorination, high lift pumping and residuals processing
• Methods, tools and materials used in buildings and grounds maintenance and repair work
• Occupational hazards and safety precautions of facility maintenance and repair
• Methods, tools and materials used in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of plant equipment
• Equipment, operations, practices and safety precautions relevant to the treatment and disposal of water
SKILL TO:
• Monitor automated control systems, query and generate work orders
• Maintain various databases and automated records
• Take accurate measurements and keep clear and organized records
• Use and care of a variety of hand, power, pneumatic and motorized tools to perform facility and equipment
maintenance and repair work
• Use basic technology
