Position: Forklift / Tugger Operator
Location: Van Buren Twp., MI
Shift: Monday-Saturday 4:30pm-3:30am (must be open to OT)
Pay: $15/hour (pay increase when hired direct / approx 90 days)
Summary:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating a gas or electric powered forklift and/or tugger to move, stack, load and unload materials in and about a plant, warehouse, staging area, etc. Work may include using banding and shrink wrap machines, computer terminals or other electronic devices, such as barcode scanners, to track product as it is moved. The Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may also be required to perform other duties as a Production Associate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- Offload inbound shipments safely and move to designated areas by use of forklift, pallet jack or other manual means. Efficiently stack and store the product as required by department.
- Stock and rotate materials as necessary to maintain First In / First Out (FIFO) material flow.
- Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area.
- Check materials received against bills of lading, purchase orders or other documents to verify accuracy of incoming shipments.
- Identify objects, actions, and events that could be hazardous in the facility and report to your Manager.
- Inspect and Initiate appropriate action when material received is damaged or defective.
- Be able to communicate effectively and work with others.
- Be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety. Comply with OSHA, ISO and MSDS Standards
- Good communication and decision-making skills.
- Perform required daily inspections of Forklift and/or tugger, documenting using inspection log and any safety or mechanical problems to be communicated to supervisor or maintenance immediately.
- Always stay aware of pedestrians and other vehicles. (Two-foot rule)
- Assist in physical inventories
- Be able to demonstrate reasonable flexibility, reliability and adaptability in the fluctuation of work schedules and workload.
- Follow and adhere to all written policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Three to six month’s related experience and/or training or equivalent; combination of education and experience. Previous forklift experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid State Driver’s License
- Fork-lift certification
