Technician responsible for assembly, disassembly and testing of equipment, acquiring and fabricating machine parts, and installing and troubleshooting equipment
Day-to-Day Role:
- Assemble, disassemble, install, operate, test and troubleshoot moderately complex equipment
- Operate manual mills, lathes, sheet metal equipment, and hand tools to support the fabrication of components
- Operate power and manual hand tools
- Operate a fork truck or shop crane as needed
- Read and interpret basic drawings, schematics, and bills of material
- Diagnose and repair moderately complex mechanical equipment, components and instruments
- Perform repairs using MIG and TIG welding as needed
- Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components and machinery
- Evaluate and implement machine design improvements
- Design basic machine components with CAD software
- Maintain accurate records of machinery functions, test results, and equipment documentation
- Maintain an adequate parts inventory and ordering new or replacement parts
- Provide technical support to engineers to achieve improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety and compliance of production and operations processes
- Collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve equipment, processes, and products
- Mentor other technicians
Core Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for either level must possess all of the following:
- Proficiency in using powered and manual hand tools such as wrench, hammer, screwdriver, etc.
- Experience working with machine shop tools such as a drill press, grinder, mill and lathe
- Working knowledge of TIG and MIG welding
The ideal Mechanical Technician II candidate must possess all of the following:
- Requires one of the following:
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in a mechanical or machining program and one (1) year of manufacturing equipment and processes, machining or machine maintenance and installation experience, OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of manufacturing equipment and processes, machining or machine maintenance and installation experience
The ideal Mechanical Technician III candidate must possess all of the following:
- Requires one of the following:
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in a mechanical or machining program and three (3) years of manufacturing equipment and processes, machining or machine maintenance and installation experience, OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of manufacturing equipment and processes, machining or machine maintenance and installation experience
