Job Description
General Motors Legal Staff is seeking an attorney to join its Intellectual Property Team which is responsible for supporting the company's intellectual property activities around the world. The attorney will take the position of Counsel and will provide responsive, pragmatic legal guidance to internal client teams, negotiate technology and license transactions, develop and commercialize GM's extensive IP portfolio and work to resolve 3rd party disputes.
Responsibilities Include:
Provide general legal advice to technical and business teams on the development, delivery, sale, and operation of industry-leading technologies delivered through automotive vehicles and other mobile devices.
Draft, negotiate, and advise on IP transactions, with an emphasis on licensing transactions
Provide instructions to foreign associates on prosecuting applications globally.
Work closely with engineers to identify possible inventions and develop them into viable IP.
Conduct monthly IP review meetings with the technology team and senior management.
Develop and implement the global IP strategy together with the senior leadership team.
Lead and implement competitive monitoring and analysis of white space opportunities.
Provide support and guidance on all IP-related matters to the business.
Participate and conduct training as and when required.
Participate or lead efforts to resolve disputes with external parties including managing litigation.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting technology development teams
Strong transactions experience with an emphasis on technology licensing transactions
Experience providing legal advice in a fast-paced and innovative global business environment
Demonstrated ability to motivate others and collaborate with cross-functional teams, as well as the ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to express complex legal matters in clear, concise, business-friendly language
Ability to efficiently resolve issues and recommend solutions that are legally sound and pragmatic in the context of business goals
International experience is a plus
Familiarity with automotive technology is a plus
Education Requirements:
Law degree from an accredited college or university
Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Admitted to practice and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction in the United States
