Bachelor’s degree, Jobs for American Graduates (JAG) Specialist Training (can be completed following employment), and 5 years working with at-risk youth in school setting.
• Ability to be responsible for tutoring & mentoring 30 students in a classroom setting. Uses the teaching techniques and curriculum from JAG National.
• Ability to provide follow-up with students when being taught the JMG Competencies, assisting students with achieving specific school-driven competencies in the classroom, and hands-on activities. Invites guest speakers and offers experiences outside of the classroom.
• Able to organize, create, and implement new projects while evaluating & improving the existing services.
• Ensure an appropriate pool of students by recruiting students through referrals from an Advisory Committee, school personnel, and parents; holds interviews with prospective candidates to determine, using JAG and WIOA Youth guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program.
• Responsible for determining eligibility for the program and obtaining required documentation.
• Ability to tailors the program and intervention strategies to meet the needs of each specific student.
• Responsible for follow up services for past participants and employer outreach.
• Monitor, evaluate, and records program activities on OSMIS and JAGForce.
• Ability to participate in staff, regional, and state-wide meetings, and staff development activities.
• Mentor youth by providing assessments, job leads, advice, direction, structure, and support.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Work effectively with at-risk adolescents and their families.
• Have knowledge of all WIOA youth grant, JMG (Jobs for Michigan Graduates) and National JAG program policies, procedures, and activities, and maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and trainings.
• Communicate effectively.
• Manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Work cooperatively with colleagues in a school setting and with business and community organizations.
• Experience with data entry and other software programs, including Microsoft Office.
• Analyze information and resolve problems.
• Ability to write letters, reports, emails and other documents using appropriate grammar and mechanics.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring that program participants succeed.
