8603BRJob Description:The Maintenance Electrician/Signal Maintainer position is a Maintenance of Way position of the Delray Connecting Railroad Company of Transtar, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of U. S. Steel responsibile for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy industrial machinery, railroad crossing and signal equipment, exterior lighting, and building electrical.
Read and interpret prints, drawings, and instruction manuals.
Operate control systems and control devices such as PLC's, VIFD's, and RC.
Comprehend machine operation and determine reason for failure regardless of cause.
Use hand tools and power tools.
Operate various kinds of test instruments for testing and troubleshooting purposes.
Follow safety and environmental standards and uses personal protective equipment.
Operate vehicles such as small trucks, fork trucks, and man lifts.
Operate manual, pneumatic and electric driven tools necessary to perform signal maintenance and repair work.
Maintain record keeping.
Minimum 5 years experience troubleshooting and repairing machinery in heavy industrial environment is required.
Experience working with and testing electrical systems up to 480 VAC including transformers, motors and associated control systems, and be familiar with electrical safety procedures is required.
Two years railroad signal experience preferred.
Electronic vocational or trade school is required.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Ability to walk extended distances over uneven terrain is required.
Ability to lift and carry more than 50 pounds is required.
Ability to climb and work at heights is required.
Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays is required.
Basic computer skills and able to use Word Processors, Spreadsheets, and Databases.
