Job Summary
Job Summary:
The Commercial Portfolio Manager will be responsible for the overall asset management and reporting for a portfolio of loans to support the development and management of the commercial group. The Commercial Portfolio Manager also supports business development in strengthening relationships with clients and new relationships. The Commercial Portfolio Manager will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently on complex transactions with little oversight. The Commercial Portfolio Manager will demonstrate strong credit, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills along with experience in financial modeling, portfolio management, and projection and sensitization analysis. The clients are located in Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon areas.
Reporting Relationship:
The Commercial Portfolio Manager reports to a Commercial Group Manager and will work closely with the Commercial Relationship Managers, the Credit Manager and Analysts in an effort to meet lending goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Promotes and monitors customer relationship and growth
• Partners with Relationship Managers to ensure customers are being serviced as needed
• Attends bank/Relationship Manager meetings as needed to assist in the loan approval process and delivering the Bank to the clients.
• In conjunction with the credit dept., will assist credit underwriting and analysis of existing relationships in connection with renewals, modifications and new transactions. Assist in facilitating closing of those transactions.
• Manages past due and maturing loans.
• Prepares periodic reviews of existing loans to assess credit quality, covenant compliance, risk rating review and regulatory review.
• Receive and review periodic reporting provided by customers to ensure borrowing base availability as well as to monitor performance
• Actively participates in research, preparation and execution of customer calls
• Review legal documents and seek additional approvals to ensure compliance, if necessary.
• Reporting - responsible for reporting on the overall portfolio, including and not limited to assessing asset quality, stress testing, industry and market analysis, asset allocation, reserves and non-performing loan analysis. Assists in the preparation of RLAC reports for the portfolio, when necessary, as well as leveraged lending and cash flow lending reporting.
• File maintenance and retention management partnered with the Relationship Manager to assure quality control, particularly in preparation for audits and loan review, including annual reviews and adequate reporting.
• Accessing data rooms to collect existing customer information, and contact the agent to obtain current information.
• Follow up, verification and modification/correction of all internal reporting and system on boarding: proper P&L/cost center, application of fees to the note, set up for payments and interest, collection and application of any additional revenue.
• Familiar with operations and approval docs to facilitate booking and supporting lending assistants in getting approvals for funding wires.
• Projects - may be required to work on miscellaneous projects and initiatives related to either the credit functions or across the company as needed.
• Effective and timely communication with credit management, borrower, and agent banks as well as with internal partners such as Treasury Management, Corporate Banking, Operations, Accounting, Legal, etc. engaging partners as appropriate throughout the underwriting process.
Requirements:
• Understand moderate deal structures and leveraged lending reporting requirements, and capable of preparing the framework of a loan approval document.
• Familiarity with multi-bank deals and documentation and ability to work with Agents, legal counsel and the client to support closing those deals.
• Ability to work with Relationship Managers, customers and the credit dept. to complete modifications and simple amendment approval documents.
• A bachelor's degree preferably in business management, accounting and/or finance.
• At least 3 years' of analyst and lending experience.
• Strong credit and underwriting skills; understanding of bank's credit profile, credit policies, and risk management objectives.
• Understanding of complex loan documentation; negotiation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with external clients, senior account executives, agent banks, credit administration, and other bank personnel.
• Ability to effectively work under tight timelines.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze, negotiate, and manage complex leveraged lending transactions.
• Experience analyzing business financial statements and tax returns (individuals and business).
General Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
