PACCAR seeks a technical leader to help meet the upcoming OBD challenges in 2022, 2024 and beyond. This person will work with directors, development engineers, and other industry professionals to define PACCAR's OBD compliance strategy. This person keeps abreast of future technology and provides recommendations to PACCAR leaders from an OBD point of view. This person will participate in industry committees to help shape future OBD regulations. The ideal candidate would use their experience to help PACCAR navigate the challenging regulatory environment.
Engineers with experience in gasoline engines, OBDII, and 1968.2 regulations will be highly valued. Experience with diesel engines, Heavy-Duty OBD, and 1971.1/1971.5 regulations preferred.

Division Information
The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. This position is located in our Michigan Office in beautiful Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
Author OBD requirements used in PACCAR's product development process
Provide regulatory guidance to design teams on auxiliary emission control devices (AECDs) and support creating compliance documentation.
Provide regulatory advice to PACCAR on implications of OBD for upcoming technology
Collaborate closely with design teams to ensure compliance of vehicle and engine technology
Extrapolate how regulators would view novel situations
Mentor other staff on regulatory aspects
Provide advice to PACCAR regarding future regulations
Craft positions to be shared with the regulators
Collaborate with American and European engineering teams to build team knowledge, assure compliance and create traceable documentation
Give internal presentations and occasional external presentations
Work with industry work groups, such as committees of the Engine Manufactures Association, to form industry-wide policies
Help drive an OBD culture within PACCAR
Help PACCAR's diesel engine group achieve compliance with low risk
Qualifications
6+ years of relevant experience
Knowledge of engine emission control technology including: FIE, EGR, VGT, DOC, DPF, SCR, etc
Knowledge of OBD and emissions regulations and certification
Experience writing formal technical requirements (experience with IBM DOORS preferred)
Excellent technical writing skills gained through formal coursework and/or work experience
Experience calibrating OBD monitors and/or emission control sub-systems
In-depth understanding of OBD monitor design
Ability to explain technology and trade-offs to non-technical decision makers
Demonstrated ability to self-teach and apply critical thinking skills
Demonstrated flexibility under changing and unclear conditions
Ability to travel, up to 5 weeks a year, both domestic and international
Education
BS in appropriate technical field required, Advanced degree preferred.
