The Clinical Practice Coordinator is the administrative lead who performs both clinical nursing in an ambulatory environment and provides administrative oversight of the Family Medicine Clinic, including supervision of clinical staff (nurses, medical assistants, and other clinical support personnel). Allocation of effort is roughly 50% as a functioning ambulatory nurse and the remaining effort in a managerial capacity.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (50% allocation of time):
Develops and regularly reviews key performance indicators by provider and either modifies clinic workflows and procedures or recommends changes to the Operations Director and Faculty to meet agreed-upon objectives.
Assists the Operations Director and Physician Leadership in the development of clinical operation's policies and procedures; assures adherence to CMU Medical Education Partners policies and procedures
Works collaboratively with providers, residents, and clinic leaders to identify and resolve unit operational problems, process improvements and promote a positive patient experience.
Oversees the day-to-day productivity of staff and coordinates daily assignment of tasks within clinic; intervenes as appropriate to resolve potential or identified problems.
When appropriate, provides the necessary support to staff, providers and patients regarding complaints and grievances.
Supervises clinic staff, including orientation and training within the department. Interviews and hires new staff, formally evaluates performance and disciplines/terminates if necessary.

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES (50% allocation of time):
Works alongside existing nurses and medical assistants
Receives and processes patient requests (i.e. prescription refills, supplies, equipment, urgent care appointments, etc.) in a timely manner.
Documents encounters within Epic according to nursing standards of practice and policy.
Reviews, places orders (i.e.: prescription refills, supplies, equipment, imaging, lab, etc.) electronically and by telephone.
Prepares and ensures proper set up of examination rooms, equipment, supplies, applicable consent forms and related details associated with the reason for patient encounter.
Receives calls that require nursing assessment, talks directly to patients on the telephone and accordingly instructs them on their next course of action.
When required, confirms the reason for the office visit (chief complaint) and prepares the patient/caregiver for examination; obtains and documents vital signs, health, and social histories as indicated or requested.
Performs and documents office procedures, back office laboratory and diagnostic tests according to CLIA and current standards.
Provides routine nursing support as directed by physicians and approved as standard practices (e.g., office surgical procedures, casting, trauma care, etc.).
Educates patients to ensure comprehension of physician orders (e.g., prescriptions) and interpretation of treatment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Registered nursing degree.
Licensure: Must be currently licensed by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Aptitude: Understanding and appreciation of the medical education/academic process with an intrinsic desire to support said process through direct educational involvement and support.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that encourage harmonious working relationships with individuals in the health and educational settings.
PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience: At least 3 years of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
Education: BSN preferred.
Experience: Ambulatory care or Home Health care experience preferred
Supervisor/Management experience preferred
