Job Description
This position is a multi-disciplinary position in the areas of design plan and proposal preparation and reviews, Call for Projects, scoping and cost estimating, utility coordination, traffic and safety engineering, maintenance and construction assistance, consultant contract oversight, and other duties assigned to the Alpena TSC. This position requires meeting tight deadlines and resolving issues to ensure the successful implementation and operation of MDOT services and products. Successful and continuing customer contact is a requirement for this position.
The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
Note: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor of science degree in engineering by December 31, 2022.
Experience
Transportation Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.
Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.
Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to
a Transportation Engineer P11.
Alternate Education and Experience
Transportation Engineer 9 - 12
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.

Leave Time
Full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation days per year. Paid Parental Leave
Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.
Deferred Compensation
Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.
Retirement
Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. The Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: Defined Benefit (DB) (https://www.michigan.gov/orsstatedb) and Defined Contribution (DC) (https://www.michigan.gov/orsstatedc) . New hires can also receive up to a 2% employer match into a Personal Healthcare Fund and a lump-sum credit to a tax-deferred account if eligible.
