The Senior Accounting Analyst is a full-time benefited position and will have the opportunity to perform complex financial and accounting duties requiring detailed knowledge of hospital/Physician Network Organization (PNO) finance, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and accounting procedures, tax regulations, and information systems. Collects, analyzes, and interprets financial and statistical data. Performs duties in a team-based environment. Works on special projects under the direction of the Regional Director, Financial Accounting and Reporting/Regional Manager, Accounting and Reporting.
The position supports Regional Accounting and the St. Joseph Mercy Health System in SE Michigan. The position is located in Livonia Michigan. (Currently working remote after orientation).
Successful candidates are required to possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent combinations of education and experience). Seeking candidates with four years of progressively more responsible accounting work experience necessary in order to gain expertise needed to fully understand, analyze and maintain a variety of accounting reports and assist in the resolution of complex accounting problems.
The primary duties include but are not limited to:
Prepares financial statements for Southeast Michigan hospitals, Physician Network Organizations (PNOs), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and subsidiaries for management review on a timely basis.
Completes variance analyses comparing to budget and prior periods. Monitors the monthly closing process to ensure accuracy of information transferred from subsystems. These systems include, but not limited to, payroll, accounts payable, material management, patient billing, and fixed assets.
Prepares and distributes financial reports. These reports may include income statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, regulatory reports and filings.
Assists with region-wide external and internal audit activities including the provision of required information within established time frames.
Provides orientation and training in financial aspects of hospital operations to administration, department directors, managers, supervisors and staff.
Maintains computer systems including establishment of new accounts, maintenance of conversion files, and design of computer generated reports and input of journal entries.
Assists administration and managers with interpretation and explanation of financial policies, financial reports, and accounting practices. Recommends changes to reports, systems or controls as appropriate.
Evaluates, develops, coordinates and implements financial policies and procedures. Develops instructions, guidelines, schedules and forms to be used throughout Southeast Michigan Region.
Keeps abreast of current developments in healthcare and finance, including regulations, GAAP and ACOs. Participates in the coordination of changes in financial operations due to regulatory decisions, technology, or changes in service delivery. Maintains and improves technical knowledge in the field by reading current applicable textbooks, journals, magazines, and other literature, as well as attending related seminars, conferences and the like.
Understands and uses all computer based related software applications used to facilitate job duties. Has understanding of all systems affecting General Ledger, inclusive of interfaces. Maintains computer files as assigned.
Supports and conducts in a manner consistent with customer service expectations. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a variety of internal contacts when collecting accounting data as well as outside auditors.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Must be able to travel to various Southeast Michigan Region sites (may or may not apply)
