Job Summary:
The security officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors by patrolling school property using proactive measures to ward the premises against fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and unlawful activities.
Essential Functions:
- Create, implement, monitor and evaluate the campus evacuation plan
- Act as the point of contact for 3rd party security companies
- Active member of the Crisis Response Team
- Monitor and evaluate the Crisis Response Plan including Code Red, Tornadoes, etc.
- Conduct all annual safety drills
- Direct traffic flow
- Complete all required statutory reports
- Secure school property and monitor campus access
- Respond to after-hour alarm emergencies
- Patrol closets, lavatories, classrooms, stairways, and exterior perimeter grounds each hour
- Monitor surveillance cameras consistently
- Secure all vacant rooms after use
- Conduct regular inspections of fire alarms and other safety monitoring equipment
- Review safety reports and emergency response plans annually
- Inform students and parents on code of conduct and consequences for violations as needed
- Intercede and diffuse disputes involving students, staff, and parents
- Patrol arrival and dismissal traffic
- Monitor arrival and departure of staff and visitors
- Protect unescorted students
- Attend board meetings involving expulsions
- Escort staff, students and visitors to parking lot after late school programs
Additional Responsibilities/Information:
- Hours: 7:00 am to 12:30 pm
- Location: All officers are crossed trained to work at all our buildings.
- Start date: Looking to fill this position ASAP, starting with one full week of training.
- Skills: good customer service skills, must have a vehicle and be prepared to work outside, maturity, neat and clean in appearance. We provide uniforms but must have comfortable shoes , no gym shoes, no nose piercings, hair must be neat. Men can not wear earrings.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required
- 3-5 years experience in Security/Law Enforcement
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of security operations, and common safety practices in a school environment
- Must have demeanor to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance, and capable of making independent and good judgment decisions within proper policy and procedures
