Founded in 1937, MSU Federal Credit Union is owned and operated by members of the Michigan State University and Oakland University communities. We offer financial services to MSU and OU faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families as well as a variety of select employee groups.
A day in the life of a Facilities Maintenance Specialist:
Under general supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager, this position is responsible for property maintenance and building operations of MSU Federal Credit Union locations. This position is part of a team that ensures the look, feel, function and safe operation of MSUFCU facilities in a manner that meets and exceeds employee and member expectations. This is a service oriented position that is dedicated to maintaining a comfortable and high quality environment for employees, members, and guests. This position participates in a 24 hour on call rotation.
Responsibilities:
Facilities Maintenance Specialist I:
Perform facility maintenance and troubleshooting tasks which may include but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work
Responsible to maintain and operate building systems including HVAC, electrical, security, and plumbing
Monitor and respond to building notification systems, and building alarms, and 24 hour calls from monitoring company
Respond to various maintenance and service requests by staff members and management
Engage with contractors to complete repairs and perform preventative maintenance duties. This could include bidding, generation of purchase orders, escorting, and verifying proper completion of work.
Assist in maintaining the function and appearance of the Credit Union buildings, systems, furnishings, and fixtures
Assist with grounds keeping, snow removal, cleaning, organizational duties, moving furniture and equipment
Complete daily work orders as assigned and update manager with work reports outlining progress and new issues
Maintain storage rooms, supplies, equipment, and tools maintaining proper order and function
Travel between sites to perform assigned duties including branches throughout Michigan on a regular basis
Keep manager advised of any on-going problems not being resolved satisfactorily or that prevents the fulfillment of responsibilities
Clearly communicate project status with Facilities Manager and project stakeholders
Support functions related to all life safety systems and equipment; participate in maintenance, operation, and testing of these systems
Maintain and audit critical system health ensuring 24/7/365 uptime of data center and DR site
Lead successful installation and repair of MSUFCU MEP infrastructure, furnishings, and utilities
Participate on projects in various capacities, from design to completion, for projects ranging from small and large scale
Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for change
Forecast facilities parts inventory levels to develop strategic purchasing programs that facilitate immediate access to supplies and increases leverage with suppliers
Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the Learning and Talent Development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Facilities Maintenance Specialist II:
All of Facilities Maintenance Specialist I duties and responsibilities
Recognizes, resolves and reports deficiencies and defects without direction
Works with minimal guidance to complete assigned projects, duties, and tasks, including the development of resources and procedures
Assists management in preparing annual budget
Lead maintenance, repair, and capital projects related to the Facilities Department
Coaches and supports team members and employees to a higher level of understanding of the department and Credit Union facilities maintenance practices and systems
Demonstrates a higher level of understanding of the maintenance field through system and process development
Ability to anticipate Credit Union and department needs to recommend and plan for upgrades, changes, and new practices
Senior Facilities Maintenance Specialist:
All of Facilities Maintenance Specialist I and II duties and responsibilities
Proven leadership through sound decision making and ability to provide guidance to Credit Union employees and team members
Assumes a lead role in the planning, development, and implementation of maintenance processes, procedures, and trainings
Strategically approaches leading and executing projects and tasks
Consistently develops and strengthens relationships with internal and external partners, and contractors and acts as a positive role-model to others and supports the team culture
Known expert or authority on multiple maintenance areas and systems, to serve as a resource for employees and contractors
What you can bring to MSUFCU:
Facilities Maintenance Specialist I:
High school diploma required; associates or bachelor's degree highly preferred
General mechanical aptitude normally acquired through high school or college course work or equivalent experience, and 3 - 5 + years of experience in the field
Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
Working knowledge of CMMS software preferred
Previous experience in construction, skilled trade, maintenance, property management, preferred
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills; professional and courteous in dealing with staff and vendors
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a wide variety of variables
Must have strong work ethic and intense pride in workmanship
