Job Description
Performs senior level professional surveying assignments utilizing the laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures of a Departmental survey program in a large geographic area of the Upper Peninsula. Conducts and documents land surveys for determination of boundary lines, retracement of government survey lines, and reestablishment of land title corners to facilitate Department land management activities. As a senior worker in a survey program, serves as responsible employee in charge over complex assignments requiring licensure under the general direction of a managerial level supervisor to facilitate the project completion of boundary, retracement, topographic, construction and other surveys. This position may also require contract oversight over some of the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) or State Forest Land Survey Contracts. Providing survey research to the contractors, overseeing maps and corner records and field inspections. This position serves a large geographic area that includes the counties of Marquette, Delta, and the western portion of Alger.

This position is a limited-term position that will automatically convert to full time upon the retirement of the current Land Surveyor.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with a major in surveying.
Experience
Land Surveyor 12 - Licensed
Three years of professional experience conducting land surveys equivalent to a Land Surveyor, including one year equivalent to a Land Surveyor P11.

Leave Time

Paid Parental Leave
Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.
Deferred Compensation
Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.
Retirement
Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%.
