Key Accountabilities:
Accountable for all aspects of the Escanaba Mill shift operations, which is a 24/7 environment, working a 12 hour rotating shift.
Oversee and support the shift supervisors to assess and improve the performance, productivity, and skills of each crew.
Coordinate the mill production activities by exercising discretion and decision making capabilities to help meet the company and department goals.
Periodic inspections of operating areas and equipment, housekeeping, and submitting work orders for any observed deficiencies.
Maintains departmental compliance for all aspects of the mills air, water, and solid waste environmental permits
Participate in our continuous improvement program by recommending and implementing approved solutions.
Partner with area Superintendents, Shift Supervisors, and Operators to optimize the quality, productivity and uptime of the mill.
Prioritize and coordinate maintenance and shutdown activities.
Working together with the maintenance coordinator/planner, complete shutdowns in a timely and safe manner.
Ensure priority is placed on planned outages, mechanical work and oversee the completion of the work.
Responsible for decision making process involving parts, materials, and personnel.
Monitor work progress, completed work while ensuring quality standards are met, and scheduled completion times maintained.
Ensure recipes are followed and quality standards met.
Coordinate the operational optimization together with the Engineering and Process Control departments.
Provide day to day oversight of the mill fiber, liquor, and steam balance.
Additional responsibility of providing direction to shift supervisors as well as their employees through the shift supervisors.
Includes but not limited to any corrective actions and/or commendations.
Improve housekeeping in all areas through a sustainable system
Understand and comply with current Bargaining Agreement, Billerud Policies and Seniority rules as they pertain to personnel coordination.
Develop and mentor salaried shift supervisors.
Lead the daily operations meeting covering safety, environmental and operational key process indicators.
Participate and develop as needed department team meetings.
Coordinate and communicate issues per the Issues Notification Guideline
Obtain support resources as necessary
Provide mill status updates to Operations Manager
Required Skills
Possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to contribute to and/or lead various teams.
Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills
Required Experience
A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry.
Pulp and Paper Industry or heavy 24/7 manufacturing experience preferred.
Work history demonstrating a proven safety track record.
Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to pursue and implement strategies that ensure safety, quality and build rapport with the teams.
Desire to mentor, train, coach and promote the success of a dynamic, goal oriented and fast paced environment is essential to be successful in this position.
