Apprenticeship is a training program in the skilled trade which combines supervised on-the-job training and experience with technical classroom instruction in subjects related to the trade. Training is governed by written agreement and is in accordance with the Company's standards which are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor. On-the-job training is under the control of the department supervisor and carried out by qualified shop instructors. Related classroom instruction is provided through an institution approved by the Apprenticeship Advisory Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for learning the use, care and effective handling of all tools and equipment commonly used in the Toolmaker/Machine Builder trade.
Exercise responsibility and diligence in their shop and classroom assignments.
Perform any and all work regularly performed by a skilled employee in the Toolmaker/Machine Builder trade as well as any other work that will add to their effectiveness.
Attend classes in subjects related to the trade either during or outside of regular working hours.
Obtain all tools necessary for their work in the shop.
Perform related duties as required.
Adheres to quality, customs, foreign trade zone and environmental processes and procedures.
Shares ideas for process improvements and other cost saving measures to management.
Must be willing to travel locally and out of the country

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus four semesters of shop courses or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum grade point average for high school and/or secondary education is a "C" average or 2.0 out of a possible 4.0.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must have successfully completed a minimum of four semesters of high school or college level math.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must have mechanical aptitude, be willing to take trade related classes at MCC, work flexible hours, work various shifts as required, work at other MAG or customer facilities, take the apprenticeship test battery as administered by MCC, have completed at least 4 semesters of "shop" training with a 2.0 (C) or better in each course.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can become very loud.
