The primary focus of this role at our Grand Rapids, MI, US office is to help the department reach its objectives and goals. This includes: constructing and authoring numerical control programs and procedures to ensure our company can provide customers with quality products and on-time delivery. These programs control the machining of metal and non-metal parts on automated machine tools. Analyzing drawings, sketches, and other design data to calculate the dimension and arrangement of cuts, the selection of cutting tools, the speed of the machines and the feed rates, based on expertise in machining operations, the particulars of the parts, and the capability of the machines. Establish reference points and the direction of the machine cutting paths, compute linear and angular dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and determine the sequence of operations to machine the part.
Utilizing CAD-CAM software to generate a geometric layout displaying the reference points and direction of the cutting paths. Creating instruction sheets and cutter lists to direct the setup and running of the machine. Programming the machine with symbolic language commands to direct the numerical control and sending these to a database to control the movements of the machine along the cutting paths. Examining the computer command results with the intended program to ensure the correctness of the machine instructions. Adjusting the programs to eradicate instructions that are incorrect or missing. Monitoring the operation of the machine during trial runs to validate the programmed instructions.
