Job description:
Lead Future Program Ergonomists working on Global Propulsion Systems (GPS) New and Major programs as part of GM's Global MEI Ergonomics leadership team. Responsible for ensuring the implementation and execution of GM's common Ergonomics design-in process to meet ergonomic requirements and reduce systemic ergonomic issues across GPS manufacturing operations. Provide strategic input into future development process and technical standards for engineering and manufacturing through review of site and program ergonomic lessons learned. Support joint plant ergonomic teams in the implementation of strategies to prevent or reduce ergonomic issues in current manufacturing plants and processes, including driving the continuous improvement of UAW-GM and Global Ergonomics performance standards (PS8).
This position requires the need to assimilate data from many sources and apply both practical and technical problem-solving techniques. While this is a people leader role, direct supervisory experience is not required and candidates who have demonstrated strong leadership qualities will be considered.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Manage team workload to ensure the Ergonomics requirements are implemented throughout the duration of all new and Global Propulsion Systems (GPS) programs. May include global program work.
- Provide ergonomics technical support for ergonomic team members and New & Major programs. Focus will be GPS programs; but may also include vehicle programs.
- Coordinate programs covering multiple regions and sites to ensure that common tools, methods, systems are used which result in comparable ergonomic outcomes.
- Develop/update/deliver relevant ergonomics process, specification, and guideline training to business units /engineers/vendors as required.
- Coach new team members on the use of ergonomic tools, techniques and software, including 3D Math Digital Human Model (DHM) Simulations.
- Ensure communication "bridge" between plant ergonomics and technical engineering activities by bringing current plant ergonomics issues to the appropriate design and manufacturing engineers.
- Assist plant sites with identification and development of ergonomics solutions on plant specific requests and issues.
- Participate and lead as appropriate specific ergonomics initiatives/projects as needed.
- Provide timely written reports and updates on specific ergonomics projects

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or Ergonomics/Human Kinetics degree (Required).
8+ years of industrial experience in manufacturing (Required).
Automotive experience (Preferred).
Direct people leader experience is preferred, but not required. (Developmental opportunity)
3+ years using ergonomic tools and/or ergonomic process implementation in manufacturing/industry (Required).
Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic manufacturing projects (Required).
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and product design manufacturability (Preferred).
AutoCAD and CAD/UG working with 3-Dimensional Human Modeling Simulation or advance computer skills (Preferred).
High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills-ability to interact with all levels of the organization (Required).
High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills (Required).
Demonstrated history of implementing and documenting process changes in a manufacturing facility (Required).
Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple customers at the same time (Required).
Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions (Required).
Ability to travel is required.
