Mission: The Evangelical Homes of Michigan Foundation ("the Foundation") supports the heritage and mission of EHM Senior Solutions ("EHM") by providing health care and an array of housing and home-based services to older adults. With its purpose to encourage charitable support for the people, programs and projects of EHM, the Foundation provides stewardship of donor resources while honoring our clients, our team members, and our volunteers.
As a Personal Care Assistant, you are responsible for providing compassionate services to the residents of the Assistant Living and Independent Living Facility of Brecon Village, while following the individual activity and assessment plans, treating each resident with respect and dignity, recognizing the individual needs and encouraging independence. In addition, as a Personal Assistant you have a key role in the creation of a homelike atmosphere for our residents throughout the Brecon village.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrate/perform assigned duties in a compassionate manner in accordance with the mission/values of Evangelical Homes of Michigan.
- Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, residents' families, visitors and staff.
- Protects privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to the resident, employee, residence, and Brecon Village information and records.
- Assists with projects as assigned and performs other related duties.
- Complies with attendance policy.
- Maintains neat appearance, good personal hygiene, and appropriate attire.
- Renders all service in a compassionate manner in accordance with the mission/values of Evangelical Homes of Michigan.
- Assists, as necessary, residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities and meals according to the individual service plan. Allows and encourages residents to do as much of their own care as possible.
- Assists with meal service in dining rooms. May assist in preparing meals following preplanned menus, encourages residents to eat a proper diet and take adequate fluids while respecting the resident's right to free choice. Reports changes in resident's eating habits to the supervisor.
- Initiates and participates in leisure activities provided for residents as described in the activity calendar. Encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs and to develop friendships with other residents.
- Maintains residents' records daily, in a timely manner, and in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Observes the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes.
- Provides medication reminders as defined in the procedure manual. Exhibits understanding of and follows medication policies and procedures.
Maintains a clean, safe and orderly environment for the residents. Performs general housekeeping following cleaning schedules for bedrooms, dining area, living space, bathrooms, kitchen, etc. Qualifications and Requirements:
A high school diploma or general education degree (FED); and three to six months related experience and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalent combination of education.
Knowledge of dementia particularly of the Alzheimer's type is helpful. Specific Requirements:
One (1) year work experience in direct service with older adults.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and other personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
