General Summary:
The Director of Recreation and Intramural Programs is responsible for the supervision of staff, fiscal operations, program development, marketing/public relations, participant retention, customer service, related to the recreation, intramural, club sports, aquatics, club fields, softball complex, summer camps, and wellness programs serving students, faculty, staff and our local community.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct programs and services that cultivates collaboration with University departments/units to address student well-being on campus and provide student experiences that enhance academic achievement.
Understanding of current issues, best practices and emerging trends in university recreation administration, including student development strategies for a diverse higher education population.
Administer the procurement of fitness and capital equipment, furniture, and fixtures and asset management. Identifies on-going capital renewal needs of facility.
Provide strategic direction for the marketing and promotion of facilities, programs,and services.
Direct the planning for resource allocation, forecasting and trending, infrastructure needs, new initiatives, assessment and personnel effectiveness.
Collaborate with other campus departments and community groups to provide diverse recreational and wellness programs and services to university community.
Direct, in tandem with the professional Student Affairs staff, the development of student leadership opportunities to enhance the student experience.
Lead committees and work groups to ensure that the student voice is included in all planning.
Ensure compliance of programs with university policy and procedures, along with local and national standards
Develop and supervise the structure for identifying, interviewing and hiring staff.
Develop and support staff programs for performance incentive and enhancement.
Maintain liaison with other University departments and executives and serve as pubic spokesperson for Department, along with interaction with Student Affairs, and community/county agencies such as YMCA, local gyms, sports clubs, youth organizations, etc.
Direct the preparation and control of budget and financial operations.
Utilize data and metrics to monitor current and new programs initiatives
Set parameters for Department's management information systems.
Develop written policies and procedures as needed, including risk management procedures, to conduct the intramural and recreation program in the best and safest manner
Perform related Departmental duties as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of organizational behavior, administration, and marketing, typically acquired through the completion of a Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Ten years of relevant professional experience, including at least five years with supervisory responsibility is necessary.
Experience in the lead role of a REC IM facility renovation, facility design, and construction.
Experience in Rec Sports Aquatics programming and facility management required.
Nationally recognized CPR, First Aid and AED certification preferred.
Membership with NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association) preferred; preferably an active role in the organization.
Masters in educational background in recreation or a related field is highly desirable.
