We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at our World Headquarters in Detroit, MI
Responsible for manufacturing engineering activities associated with assigned manufacturing area(s).
Analyze automotive driveline component and assembly product designs for best method of manufacture.
Propose and evaluate the processes for driveline component machining and assembly equipment.
Evaluate and estimate cost requests. Specify and provide estimates for manufacturing process for new programs or modify for existing programs.
Direct the design, development and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for driveline manufacturing.
Manage engineering changes as they occur.
Specify, quote, purchase, and runoff capital equipment, tooling, and systems required for driveline products manufacturing. Review quotations and provide technical evaluation for machine and tooling procurement sourcing to support programs and activities assigned.
Train and develop AAM Associates Globally in the field of manufacturing engineering, APQP, program management, AAM manufacturing systems
Travel as required to global regions of AAM manufacturing during project planning, implementation, launch, and support, including machinery and equipment installation, certification, run-at-rate, and on-going production support.
Interact with, and facilitate communication with AAM facilities, suppliers, and customers on a global basis, to coordinate manufacturing engineering activities and ensure business objectives are met.
Provide technical support for plant operations. Troubleshoot daily production problems through root cause analysis techniques as they occur.
Assist in evaluating potential suppliers and partners in AAM's operations.
Develop and maintain quality & process documentation - Control plans, PFMEAS, Picture Process Sheets, Tooling Sheets, etc.
Investigate and implement cost reduction efforts through the suggestion & productivity improvement programs.
Understand & perform tolerance stackups. Have an understanding of GD&T along with datum dimensioning of components.
Develop and maintain program-tracking documentation.
Work with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering on new process development when assigned.
CNC Programming Experience.
a. Understand & use parameters.
b. Understand & use G &M codes.
c. Understand & use macro programs & variables.
College degree in technical field preferably BS Mechanical Engineering or BS Manufacturing Engineering.
Five to Ten years work experience in high volume processing of automotive components and assembly for driveline products required.
General understanding of manufacturing processes and thorough knowledge of tooling/programming.
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult required. Solid problem solving skills required.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
Knowledge of computer applications: Microsoft Office required.
