I Accountability Objectives:
As part of the leadership team, the Clinical House Manager is responsible for assisting the clinical leader/charge nurse and staff with staffing coordination, shift operations and overall problem solving. In addition, he/she assures and supports the appropriate use of resources and mentors clinical staff in provision of quality patient care. This position has the authority to make the decisions associated with immediate needs and requirements for staffing.
II Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.
A. Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent.
B. Licensure / Certification
- Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
C Special Skill / Aptitudes
- Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
- Demonstrates courteous and professional communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively coordinate care and promote a customer orientation with the health care team across the continuum.
D. Experience
- Four years as staff nurse with progressively more responsible work experience with demonstrated clinical leadership skills.
- Management experience preferred.
III Duties / Responsibilities:
- Assures that the 24-hour staffing plans submitted by clinical leaders are implemented and/or adjusted based on changes in patient census and acuity as well as staffing changes (call ins, etc.).
- Effectively assists staff and others in problem solving related to: patient flow, customer service, conflict resolution, safety concerns, disasters, etc.
- Collaborates with PTC and 3 unit leadership to facilitate the flow of patients.
- Ensures thorough and timely review and communication of events/decisions made that altered staffing plans or unit operations.
- Mentors and coaches staff in the development of professional nurse behaviors and management of patient care.
- Investigates, documents and communicates occurrences that impact clinical operations and, where appropriate, takes immediate action to assure compliance with hospital policies and procedures/guidelines.
- Provides feedback regarding staff performance and operational issues related to quality patient care.
- Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values.
- Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.
- Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
- In accordance with unit or departmental practice, determines that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice.
- In accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management.
- In accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit. Requests services for maintaining equipment as needed.
- In accordance with unit or departmental practice, proficient with the electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management, performing these activities concurrently with provision of care throughout the shift.
