Peckham Inc. - AmeriCorps Member (General)
SUMMARY
Peckham's AmeriCorps program is a year-long National Service commitment; it is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable professional development at a national award-winning organization, recognized for its achievement in providing exceptional vocational rehabilitation, creating inclusive cultures and building a quality workplace for employees. AmeriCorps members serving through the Economic Opportunity Coaching Program will provide individualized coaching to clients with disabilities and other barriers to employment to help them on the path to economic stability. 7 Full-time, 5 Half-time and 2 Quarter-time members will provide coaching to clients in the areas of Financial Literacy & Tax Preparation, Employability Skills and Adult Learning. Members provide financial literacy and tax preparation coaching to clients in group and individual sessions on topics including budgeting, money management, credit education, VITA tax preparation, identity theft & fraud, retirement preparation and various other financial literacy topics. Members also provide employability skills coaching on topics including resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, professional image coaching, self-management, and job search skills. Members serving the Adult Learning focus provide basic adult literacy coaching in English, math tutoring, citizenship literacy and other skill-building topics.
Responsibilities vary by focus area and can include the following:
Provide comprehensive coaching to clients, including individualized goal setting, to help people improve their financial literacy, employability skills, and adult education skills Communicate verbally and in writing daily with Peckham staff regarding clients' progress in meeting their individualized goals Collaborate with community partners to coordinate on-site classes and link clients with community services Facilitate and support partner-led financial literacy classes Provide 1:1 follow up and support for Peckham Talent Development staff-led employability classes, including Adult Education Provide classroom instruction as needed/assigned Attend VITA tax training sessions provided by Capital Area United Way and utilize the IRS Link & Learn website for self-directed training to become VITA certified as a tax preparer. Quality review fellow members tax returns and provide clients the most accurate tax returns possible, interpret current tax code and be knowledgeable in tax return preparation practices Travel to several off-site locations in the Greater Lansing area to provide tax preparation services Collaborate with community partners/volunteers to coordinate on-site tax prep services and link clients with community resources Travel to satellite locations in the Greater Lansing area to provide English and adult education coaching to Peckham clients Coordinate and participate in Michigan's AmeriCorps and National Days of Service activities and events Document service activities according to program requirements utilizing multiple databases.

Teleservice Addendum COVID-19 Requirements:
Adhere to original position description and perform as many tasks as can be performed under regular circumstances, remotely, using online interfaces Create and disseminate COVID-19 related material as it pertains to financial literacy and employment-related topics Engage in additional Civic Reflection activities, as assigned by Program Manager Assist Peckham Team Members with Unemployment applications online via the UIA website Engage in additional online professional development training opportunities offered by Peckham, Inc. Collaborate with Program Manager to take an active and unique role in capacity building activities to benefit Peckham Team Members (clients) Volunteer to serve at approved local non-profit shelters, food banks, and community outreach organizations to ensure essential services continue to be provided for members of the community.
Education:
High school diploma is required and college degree, or experience equivalent to at least
two-year Associates degree or higher, is desired.

$1,718.25 Education Award for quarter-time members (pending successful completion of program requirements and a minimum of 450 hours of service over a 12-month period)
